The majority of Orielys viewers turn to him because a) they think he's actually "independent" or "unbaised" or b) because they find his style of yelling to be rather funny. Granted he's not as bad as most of the other guys on tv because he'll at least call out the republicans from time to time. But he still is far from a great politican comentator.

BTW can you at least try not to sound like a condesending pompous ass?

If he's going to (try to) flame me, I'm going to respond. Pompous is not tantamount to intelligent and informed.

And your opinion on O'Rielly is exactly that, an opinion. Most people watch because they like what he has to say. I doubt they give a if he's biased or not.

Someday you'll come to realize that everyone is biased in one way or another. Fox is wrong to present themselves as being otherwise.

Also, you're confused. Chris Matthews (totally useless) yells constantly. O'Rielly doesnt. Are you sure you're not confusing the two?

And if he's merely a talking head, how do you explain the huge success of his numerous books? Get over the fact that O'Rielly easily put Ludacris in his place and move on with whatever you call a life.

Wow, this is sad. Reading this thread made me really angry and made me think twice about returning to the US this week. Wretched and ne1seemonkeys are practically neo-facists that have been swallowed by the system and the neo-con ideology.

You're obviously no polsci expert or anything like that if you think O'Rielly is one of the best political commentators alive. Not only is his analytical approach pretty mediocre and tailor-made to capture the extremely short attention span of white trash America, but his whole style and concept is a total ripoff of Hardtalk with Tim Sebastian on BBC (who has been around for much longer). Unlike O'Reilly, Tim Sebastian is truly a pragmatic centrist who will come down on all sides pretty much equally. O'Reilly has a very obvious neo-conservative and hawkish bias, there's no way he would attack an Israeli the same way he would confront a Palestian. Anyways, there are many political analysts out there that are far superior to O'Reilly in intellect, knowledge, pragmatism and compassion. If you're a right winger then read some John Gaddis, Paul Kennedy, Ann Coulter. Maybe you're too young and don't know any better, that wouldn't surprise me. If you're in college PLEASE take a polsci course and tell your professor that O'Reilly is your favorite political commentator. :haha:

The fact that a pseudo-political commentator like O'Reilly (with his reactionary, chauvinist, xenophobic and racist undertones) has the highest rated cable news show says a lot about American society right now, and for me he presents a much higher danger to the state of the union than what Ludacris could ever do. The fact that I see a few TAs here blindly supporting O'Rielly and making ridiculously racist statements in his defense is evidence enough that O'Rielly's campaign to brainwash Americans into supporting an isolated, unilateral and neo-facist sociopolitical system is working. FoxNews is one of the prime reasons of the current backwardness in the American ethos. I wish you guys could see the news from an European perspective so you could find out what really's going on in the world.

Ludacris is indeed a ty rapper, but he's nevertheless one of the best ty rappers out there ;) . I mean, it's not his fault that he's from the south :haha: . I don't like his music that much, but the guy has good flow and rhythm, and some of his songs like Rollout are great booty party dance tracks. If you care too much about the lyrics you're just drowning yourself in a cup of water. It's not worth it.

Bill O'Reilly proved his stupidity to me the most when he said that hip hop is going to be dead in ten years. I'm sorry, but anyone who says that is a total ignorant. Not only is hip hop the most relevant and influential musical form of our generation, it's simply the most universal and popular genre of electronic dance music out there. And when I talk about hip hop from a sociocultural context I mean both the bad and the good, the mainstream and the underground, the American and the French and the Argentinian etc. They all overlap in some way or the other. The Neptunes are probably some of the most innovative and talented producers in electronic dance music history, yet they've done beats for Snoop, Nelly, Sean Paul, Jay Z and even Britney and Justin. Almost EVERYONE in pop music wants a beat made by the Neptunes or a beat that rips off the Neptunes style. There are many examples of how there's no way hip hop could die anytime soon, it's just too popular all over the world. It's a staple of post-industrial urban culture and its culture has been seamlessly applied all around the whole globe. I don't even like it that much, but you have to recognize the facts: hip hop's here to stay.

First of all, he did his undergrad at Marist College and then went on to get a masters degree from Boston University. He went to the JFK School in Harvard as an old man and after having a vast resume supporting his application, it's not really as impressive as it sounds. And Harvard is definitely not the best school for polsci in the US! It's alright, but a lot of schools are better. Like say, the one that is the alma mater of the last three Presidents and 3 of the Democratic candidates for President in '04. ;)

Rap IS dieing noone sees it. And i am happy about it too there is only SOME rap i like anymore. I been doin rap too long.. I am sick of it evreyone and their mom is rappin now its a in fad. I steered away from RAP years ago because I realized the subject matter did not reflect my views. I don't like to listen rappers talking about gangs, violence, drugs, sex, alcohol, flaunting money, etc. To me rap is all about showing off and because its so commercilized its has tremendous popularity. I do like old school rap because that was when I was still enjoying it but most rap songs now I don't make any attemps to listen to.

This type of hip-hop is what gives right wingers like Bill O Rielly, the ammunition to label the genre as sexist (slap your bitch)..

The genre has also come under attack from gay rights groups, especially Eminem, for his anti-gay remarks in some of his songs. Some people defend Eminem's anti-gay remarks, the same people who would jump on Bill O Rielly in an instant if he made an anti-gay remark. That's hypocrazy, or maybe just a bunch of morons think there is a musical license to be homophobic and sexist.

I however dont care either way, but the hypocrazy annoys me, it always has. To sum it up "Oh, I see, you can be sexist & homophobic in the music business, but if your a political commentator, oh well, we cant have that, now can we."

Liberals, form a uniform train of thought please, this is what annoys me about you liberals.

Oh yeah, here's another interesting fact: "Bill O'Reilly's book tops the New York Times bestseller list as No. 1 in the country, and his prime time show, "The O'Reilly Factor" has also been rated by Nielsen Media Research the No. 1 cable news talk show on television." He also studied at the Univeristy of London and went back to school (Harvard) in 1995. Have you not thought that the majority of America is made up of sheep who eat what comes out of the tv? YaleTrance covered what I've been thinking.

And there's so much hiphop out there that blows trance away. Saying that the rap you hear on the radio is the definitive example of hiphop is like saying Alice Deejay is the pinnacle of trance.

You don't think that it's going to affect what young, black, urban youths go and buy? If they see ludacris drinkin' it, they gotta drink that too. It's all apart of the unoriginality in the rap world. [/b]

LOL . First of all it's not a "rap world" thing, it's a "role model" thing. Granted, Ludacris should never be a role model. But kids look up to him, so they might buy pepsi cause they see him doing it. It has nothing to do with the rap world

[quote] Another thing is that yes, Pepsi's responsibility is to the shareholders, but at the same time they have an image that are trying to keep and protect. Part of that has to include not getting someone as god-awful and filthy (lyrically, that is) as Ludacris.

But using a well known animal eating drug abuser is better...

Exactly. But Bill O'Relli didn't urge his viewers to call Pepsi to complain about them, did he? I guess when you're the right color, Bill O'Reilli will let you get away with it.

can we get one thing straight please, b/c before you continue to slam someone else for stating their opinion, let's get the FACTS straight. Ludacris is a RAPPER, NOT A HIP-HOP artist. Hip-hop, and I'm speaking about it's true form, are groups like Jurrasic 5. THAT is true hip-hop. Guys like Ludacris, 50 (cent, oops), etc are rappers. Hell, 50 cent can barely ing talk, so calling him a rapper is a stretch.

Good, I'm glad we got that straight ;)

EDIT: I just thought it was funny b/c you said "to anyone who knows *anything* about hip-hop, when you yourself don't seem to know wtf it is, b/c you put Ludacris in that group, when he is clearly not. REAL hip-hop artists have taken s with more talent than Ludacris :D

LOL, everyone has their own definition of what real hip hop is. None of what you said is a fact.

Don't call it "ignorance", call it being misinformed. Some people just happen to place a little more emphasis on the important things in life, a category thankfully devoid of rap and hip-hop, and the actions of its "artists" (which, consequently, is a disgrace to the word artist and to those who actually belong in the category (meaning they have skill)).

1) It still is ignorance
2) The people that are informed about the "more important" things, and are barely informed about hip hop, shouldn't comment on hip hop at all, because they are ignorant when it comes to hip hop. It just doesn't make sense.
3) Rappers are artists. They don't have skill? You couldn't rap a decent verse to save your life.
