Firstly what do you mean "proof that it works"?
There is proof that "your system" works in Iraq ATM I guess. Is it called the "Stand-over" system?
Did you mean that Bill Gates has done the same thing in a financial way?
...It's not "all of Europe" anyway. Europe is still an uber-long way from being "one". All of it's countries pretty much stand alone. There is more to it than a common currency.
Even if all of Europe was unified, it still would have FAR less land mass and therefore less natural resorces.
Not to mention less guns. |

Our hidden shame: textile sweatshops

ABOUT 4000 underpaid textile workers are slaving in Third World
conditions in illegal Brisbane sweatshops, according to a clothing industry
union.
The Textile, Clothing and Footwear Union said machinists and
cutters, mostly Asians with poor English, were working up to 100 hours a
week to meet quotas.
They were being paid as little as $2.50 an hour, when they were
entitled to $12-$15. Children as young as 10 were also forced to work long
hours in appalling conditions.
The union's state secretary, Jack Morel, said many of the
backyard clothing sweatshops were not registered as factories and few had
toilets, lunch rooms or legally inspected machinery.
Mr Morel said about 200 sweatshops had sprung up as contractors
abandoned the spiralling costs of Melbourne and Sydney in favour of
Brisbane's outer suburbs, where unemployment was higher and the "disposable"
workforce was abundant.
"It's the hidden shame of Brisbane," he said.
Mr Morel said his attempts to police the booming practice had
led to death threats and intimidation from some factory owners.
He said Queensland sweatshops had mushroomed, mostly fuelled by
the lucrative school uniform market, worth about $60 million a year.
Mr Morel said many sweatshops pumped out up to 1000 uniforms a
week, and preyed on migrants who spoke little English.
Outworker Tho Nguyen, 44, a Vietnamese refugee, is still owed
$10,000 in wages from the last sweatshop where she worked.
The mother of one abandoned sweatshops in favour of working from
her own Woodridge carport because of atrocious conditions.
"Once I sewed my finger, but I had to keep going. I would lose
my job otherwise," Mrs Nguyen said.
