:stongue: Loveparade never really was huge on trance. As for techno being "boring", I suggest you tune in for Rush, Liebing, and Umek...your opinion should change. Westbam should be quite good as well, his sets always get me going. |

| i admit rush and umek can throw down some bangin sets..but liebings stuff can be boring. his set at sensation black after loveparade 2002 ,for example, didn't impress me. |

Interviewer: Getting back to your music again, you have been variously referred to as the Leader of the Trance Nation, the King of Trance, Trance Messiah. But you prefer to describe your style as simply electronic music. Is it that you don't like the term trance itself, or is it that you don't like to be pigeonholed into one type of music, one subjective term?
Paul van Dyk: It's a mixture of both of these reasons. First of all I don't like to be pigeonholed. I could play you a song of mine right now and you would never even come close to the idea that this is trance. The great thing about electronic music is that you can merge those different styles together. The last song I did could be called as advanced Britpop as much as electronic dance music. You could also call it pop music. I like to have that opportunity to merge things together. When I play, the music ranges from break-beat to house to trance to techno to whatever you want to call it. It's all there in my music. This is why I don't like labelling. Of course my music has trancy elements, I never deny that, but what's bad about this trance thing is that for marketing reasons the most awful records of the whole electronic genre get labelled trance. I started getting really outspoken about this when I was called the Leader of the Trance Nation on the cover of the biggest music magazine in the UK. In the same issue the most horrible record was called trance tune of the year. So how the hell does that work? I fight against this type of music, but at the same time I get labelled leader of the trance nation, and this track is the trance tune of the year. That would mean I would have played it and supported it, which is not true. I think the only person who can label music is the artist who created it, because he is the only one who has any idea where it comes from. |
