| Gah, I've got to get four pulled, and soon, but I have to split it up over this year and the next because of crappy dental insurance. |

| Ya, wisdom teeth suck, but isn't it true that some people don't have to have them removed? And what age would you find out if they're a problem? I haven't had my dentist say anything yet... |

If you get an x-ray of your jaw your dentist should easily be able to tell you if they'll be a problem. If they aren't by the time you're in your mid-twenties, they probably won't be. You're right in that some people don't need to have them removed, but in most cases the jaw is too small to fully contain them. The result is they can either compress your teeth (because they don't have enough room), grow in abnormally, or become impacted, meaning they grow in sideways and don't break the surface of your gum. Impacted wisdom teeth require actual surgery, because they can't simply be pulled out.
You can leave them alone, but chances are you'll wake up one morning with one hell of a toothache if you do, not to mention other complications.
It's fun, fun, fun. |
