heh. you said Canada. wake up and smell the coffee beans. if you were to mention an industrialized country with a high standard of living and great social programs, it would've been better to mention Scandinavian counrties, and leave Canada alone. Canada is merely a French colony, and the French are not all that productive in much of anything these days, except bitching and making more enemies.

Out of respect for my friends from the great white north...Canada is a member of the Commonwealth which, if you don't know, means they are a former British colony with the Queen of England as their official Head of State.
The Canadians can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that Quebec (the French colony part) was won by the British during the French and Indian War (as US history books call it...if memory serves me correct it is referred to as the "7 Years War" in Europe).
Of course, I live in a state of Bliss for I am ignorant.

I agree that if one were to think of an example for a country with good social programs Scandinavian countries and Cuba would be the best examples. Canada however is still considerably better then the United States. We have a much better education system then you. We have a lot more funding for our public university system. We have medicare. We have a lot more civil rights. We have a much more effective and better justice system as is shown by levels of crime and by punishments we give out. We have a lot more equality rights. We have a much better welfare system. We have a much smaller divide between the rich and poor.
Now this is not to say that our system is great. I wouldn't even say that it is especially good. Our taxes are far to low which in turn means there isn't enough funding for many things such as schools, universities and health care. Our legal system is still in many ways quite ridiculous and many people's rights are violated with almost no recourse.
That being said we are still vastly superior to America. |

i never said mexico was a greater place to live. mexico has jobs, just not enough blue collar ones. plus they can make alot more here and they are in demand cause of cheaper labor. theres only mass poverty in half the country, and thats due to US corporations and government, just look at the people of chiapas.

What you forgot to mention was: Very few opportunities compared to the US, only 3-4 cities, very high taxes. And that prized "welfare" program that you boasted about, does not even compare with the American one, because America actually provides for seniors who immigrate here, whereas Canada does not. That's why, for families with elderly parents, Canada is not an option. It's only an attractive for young people with no commitments to elderly relatives.
P.S. - rizen, you are an idiot and should do the forums a favor by checking yourself before you post some other ill-advised crap. Particularly about Mexico. |
