Whats this about only using channels 1 and 4? :conf:
Energized
I got confused as well, can't you mix 3 or 4 channels at once using upfaders then?

^^^^^^

I think this thread explains the vmx700 channels.

the crossfader itself only fades between ch1 and ch4. For ch2 and ch3, you need to use the upfaders.
Seany_G
So I still don't get it. You can use all 4 at once but you need to have the X-fader in the middle? SO basically you can use the cross fader between chenels 1 and 4 and chanels 2 and 3 are always live?

Am I getting the drift here? So if I was going to hookup my 2 tech's and the two CD decks I could use all of them as long as I have the X fader in the middle and use the faders on each individual deck?

Thanks for your time.

If you want to hear all the 4 channels into the amp-out, the X fader needs to be in the middle.

If you want CH4 playing out loud: upfader of CH4 up, X fader on CH4
if you want CH3 " ": upfader of CH3 up X fader anywhere
if you want CH2 " ": updader of CH2 up X fader anywhere
if you want CH1 " ": upfader of CH1 up X fader on CH1

If you want CH1 + CH4 out loud: upfaders of CH1 and 4 up, Xfader in the middle.

If you want CH1+2+3+4 out loud: X fader in the middle and up faders of all channels up.

CH2 + CH3 out loud: upfaders of CH2 and CH3 up, upfaders of CH1 and 4 down.

AND SO ON.
It sounds pretty difficult, but really, it isn't.

wtf? got a little bit confused...
crossfading only between ch1&4?
whats the use of the crossfader "assign" shown in this pic?

WEll i would assume that if it's not for the channels themselves that it is probably for the kill switches. But then that raises another issue. You can only kill eq's off of 3 tracks at a time (not that youll mos tlikely need 3)...

Let me clear things up, you CAN mix with all 4 channells, the assign buttons are for selecting which channells you wanna use the crossfader for, but if you leave the crossfader in the middle, all the channells are live, so you just use the channell faders to mix.
Overall I am very happy with this mixer, yes the echo effects and the delay effects are preset BPMs but hey you can't have everything for 400 bux, but you can still be creative with the effects, the sound is good, everything feels solid, the BPM counters are crap like usual but who cares, its no Allen & Heath, but I like it and thats what counts for me :gsmile:
If anyones got anymore questions I'll be mroe than happy to answer.

Happy Mixing.

Well, now I am interested in this mixer again (thank god it can mix more than 2 chs @ a time!!).

Ok, I've got a few q's:

What mixers have you owned prior to this (as a reference)?

How are the kills on it? Instantaneous? No popping or sticking? How are the EQs?

Effects besides Echo and Delay: what's good and what sucks?

X-fader & Channel faders' quality? Great, Good or just Ok?

Headphone amp?

Prodigy Child
Well I haven't really owned many other mixers, just a crappy PMX60 (don't ask), a Kam mixer, can't remember which one, it was a long time ago, and now this one, the reason I ain't had many is cos my friends always had better and so I was normally round there house, or I played in a club, I've played on the DJM-500 many times, a couple of Ranes, don't know which ones they are but they were the 19" ones, never cared what I played on, aslong as it works.
Well as for your other questions, the EQs can cut the sound out completely cos they goto -32db, its very gradual in cutting the sound in each direction, but when you near the end of the rotation it starts cutting really sharp, hope that makes sence, the x-fader, is really really smooth as are the channell faders, the x-fader also has a CF curve control, so you can change it to how you like, I ain't no scratch expert by far, but you could prolly scratch pretty good with it, the sound quality is good, not great, but thats prolly cos of my dieing amp, I do have noise in the background, but only if I really crank it, so don't go plugging it into any 1000W amps now.
As for the kills, there buttons, so to me they ain't as good as the toggle style, but they do kill the frequencies very well, and have heard no popping sounds or anything else for that matter that ain't coming from the record.
As for the other effects, there are some useless ones like the Vinylizer, but the Reverbs are good, the Flangers are ok, but theres no control like the DJMs, the only control you have over these effects are the volume they are played at over the original selected source, as for the Panning, well I've hardly used them, but they don't seem to go in time with the music unless at a surtain BPM, so I think thats Preset aswell, the Filters are not bad, but weak, and once again no control really, but really these can all sound good or bad, it just depends on how you use them, I like it for the money, but its by no means a replacement for the DJM 500/600.
Hope this helps.
Prodigy Child
Oh and as for the headphone amp, its plenty powerful enough, but I find at high volumes there is some background noice, but I rarely have it that loud so it doesn't bother me.
