Buddy, almost everyone here listens to their music really loud, and yes even to the max volume with headphones! There's no reason to call us idiots just because we like to listen to our music loud! If we can take it, who cares? Trance sounds better that way! And oh yeah, headphones are more damaging to your ears! hListening to your headphones at a lower level is equivalent to listening to your stereo a couple notches louder!

Well obviously you can't take it, if you're losing your hearing.
If you didn't have this problem, this thread wouldn't have come up in the first place. You obviously have it, and even if it's not bad now it will be in the future. So don't be so reckless as to say "we can take it."

Where the hell did that come from???????
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in a looong time.

And I want to mention this:

Even if there were any truth to your argument that "headphones make the music go more directly to your ears and nothing can escape" and all that , consider the fact that what's really tiring to most people -- including me -- is extremely loud LOW frequences, such as the bass. But those low frequencies only become prominent on a subwoofer, a component of a loud stereo-system. That's what causes the ringing in your ears, folks. With the headphones, though, you don't really have this problem.

Here is a statement by a doctor, Ph.D. in medicine. I found this on the Web, regarding headphones vs. speakers. Somebody asked if headphones were more harmful, and here's what he said: (If you want the link is http://www.audiologyawareness.com/h...x.cgi?read=2136)

Enjoy your music either through earphones or loudspeakers. Sound has the potential to cause hearing loss over the long term if it requires you to shout in order to be heard. And this is the case for prolonged use - 8 hours a day and over a number of years. So occasional listening at moderately loud levels should not be harmful.

So please stop using words like "definitely bad" and "the worst" if you don't know what you're talking about. Everything in human life is structured in such a way, that if you take it to the extreme it becomes harmful. It's true for vision, sleeping, eating, everything -- including hearing. Hearing loss occurs after VERY LONG and STRONG exposure to loud sound. But at moderate levels and volumes? No problem. Including headphones.

Ive never experienced this beeping sound in my ear.....But then i have never been to a real rave....i have experienced head ache when listening to earphones for to long but ill just turn the music down a bit...i cant enjoy trance if its TO loud...i mean i want it LOUD but not loud so my ears get hurt.....As i always say:

"Trance is to be enjoyed at a pleasant volume"

Loud....but still comfortable....you have to feel one with the music....if you sit in the tube......and put your headphones on it sohould be like reality stops and you just step into the music.....thats what i experience....Everything becomse like a music video.....you should not hear anything else but the music.....but still not get any pain anywhere....THATS the pleasant volume im talking about :D

Peace!

well then eugene listen to your headphones as low as you want, then you want have anything to worry about. i was talking about when you have headphones at a high level. obviously if you have it on a low level then it wont be a problem. ive had headphones on and listened to my music loud and then have my ears ring for a few minutes. i never turn my car speakers up loud enough to do that cause im afraid of blowing my speakers out.

Well I think the smartest thing in this thread has been said by Mindshooter. I agree with him 100%. If you find that you can't enjoy any trance unless it's on max volume, something is wrong with you. There is a threshold which is called PLEASANT volume, one at which your spirit and body are in harmony. Of course trance shouldn't be played too quietly -- I'm not saying that at all! But at the PLEASANT volume, not only are you spiritually enjoying the music, your body -- your ears -- are feeling comfortable too. Only then can trance be enjoyed fully.

Balance your physical and spiritual love for trance, you'll feel much better! Otherwise you'll only ruin your health.

You got the point :D

I have no idea where you guys get the notion that the trapping of sound from headphones is bad for your ears. The trapping gives higher fidelity of music. All professionals in the music business use high quality headphones, some costing thousands of dollars.

My problem with headphones is the pressure of the two ear enclosures pressing on my cheek bones and ears. the pressure eventually starts to bother me so I take off the headphones. The enclosures also trap heat that bothers my ears too.

When your body starts giving you signals, like headaches and pains, you better stop or turn down the level of the volume. The short term pleasure of listening to blasting loud music is not worth the damage it will cause you in the long run.

You know, I DJ, and Ive never heard of anybody going completly deaf. Now TONE deaf yeah, That happens even to amateurs(like myself) You dont lose all hearing, just the high end and the low end of the range, you can still here the middle range tones. Go see an audiologist if you think you could have problems. @ my job we are supposed to see one every 6 months. After a year or so of DJing you will lose the high and low range hearing, but you dont use that most of the time.

Best way to protect is with the ear plugs. You can still here it just fine, it just protects you from that much sound still. How do you think bouncers can wear earplugs and still hear ppl talking? They dont block out all the noise, just the extreme loudness of it!

errrm, no, I wasn't saying that. Should have made myself clearer. I was partying at Mayday (in '94, that is.)
And I was spinning 4 out of 8 days in June '01.
