"I can't believe it". All those that say that trance isn't as good as it was in the "glory days" are jaded in my opinon. Sure 98-99 were great days for trance and there were some true classics (agree) but how can the trance or yesterday compare to some of the productions being released now.
Everyone always goes on bout Tiesto's 99 Energy Set which I agree is one of my favourites. But come on some of the recent Armin, Tiesto, PVD etc livesets on that one.
Just look at all the talented producers to come out within the last year or so eg. Precision, Mike Shiver, Greg Murray, Ron van den Beuken, Cosmicman (Matti Lamamman), Scott Mac, Michael Woods, Airbase, Neo&Farina etc. I could write a book with the amount of quality "new" trance producers there are now.
Also the new Gouryella, System F releases on the crappy ones of old. eg. Ligaya vs. Gouryella or Spaceman vs. Out of the Blue (absolute cheesy trance).
Anyone agree???? or am I flying the flag for 02-03 alone???? |

i would be interested in such a book.
write me a thesis please, on how trance has evolved, and in what nature it differs from back in the day.

if you're saying Ligaya is better than Gouryella and Spaceman is better than Out of the Blue... then im afraid your flying the flag on ur own partner.
Definite disagreement there!
but everyone's entitled to their own opinion.. no harm done :) |

obviously, because people like yourself & jizza (no offence) like cheece. That's the sort of stuff that gave trance a commercial rep.

that's fair enough jules, you're entitled to your opinion and i am entitled to disagree with you. spaceman? ligaya? wtf? no way do they remotely even compare to the walhalla's or out of the blue's. yeh sure they're cheesy but they still make me jizz my pants everytime i hear them! when i can say the same for cosmicman (don't get me wrong - he's good, 'i love you' is an awesome track), then i will stop comparing them to 99. |

but don't you think the only reason they're deemed classics now is that they were ground-breaking stuff that no-one had heard or experienced before. nowadays you can have just as earth-shattering productions but people tend to always compare them to a bygone era that was safe to say, the glory days. |
word.... you said it yourself cheese boy!! I jizz on your face!! |

Well my thoughts are somewhere between Jules and Jaykue. I agree that there's a lot of repetitive formulaic music being produced but imo it just serves to highlight the stuff that is fresh and pushing the boundaries. Sure the quality may not be as prolific as in the past but the quality new music is always there.
Having only really got into dance music over the past few years, I'm not fully aware of 98 and 99 as major trance years but from what I can gather 98 and 99 produced basically anthemic trance. I agree that there's not many true anthems being produced lately but I think that there's a lot of depth with new talents emerging all the time. It's also difficult to tell what will stand the test of time and what won't early on.
just my thoughts. |
