PvD is right in that most ppl will never understand real trance. IMO the artists he named are cheesy and worse: PREDICTABLE. it's all the same harmonies, over and over. moreover, w his credibility from all those years of being central to the scene, it's fun to hear him say these things so candidly :D
HOWEVER: when a serious producer gets his/her hands on one of these cheesy artists, the result can be GOOD. the oliver lieb remix of dj sammy sunlight is great!! |

I'll admit that badmouthing IvD was not very smart when he has played one of their productions, but I doubt that any artist would be bigheaded enuff to say that one of his own tracks "saved trance", esp PvD. That's why I also doubt that PvD wrote that himself. We also know Mixmag are notorious for fabricating statements, twisting words and stirring up in their articles (Tiesto/Ferry comes to mind, plus horrible, baseless statements towards Danny Tenaglia which the man himself had to write to their column to wash off)
So quite frankly that article could be a major mass of bogus for all we know, and that's why I'm not taking it seriously. |

Me; oh and I hate the other artists you mentioned.
back to the topic...
Van DYK maybe a tad hypocritical (his latest experiment was a little off the mark in alot of people's minds), but hey, atleast he experiments - better that than the usual same-old, same-old from the that is Sammy and Co. Good on him for bagging cheese music - let it be known to them, then they might actually try and produce some half decent music.
Darude did it...
Having said that, we get to enjoy the good stuff, so who gives a fawk about MTV fans. |

this is quoted from a magazine, but i doubt these are pvd's own words... why would he talk about himself in the 3rd person??? what is quoted here are the words of the magazine writer... not pvd... maybe that last part is pvd speaking, but otherwise...
i don't know pvd personally, but i can't imagine annyone being arrogant and elitist enough to say such things... |

There's no link to this article that i can find. nor was this quote taken in context from the article taken in context.
PLUS
journalisms twist facts, take things out of context, butter stuff up, and do whatever they can do to make comments from famous people seem more controversial or whatever to evoke more emotion in the response of hte reader.
we don't really have much proof that this is actually what PvD meant when he was on this topic during the interview.
we don't even have direct quotes coming out of his mouth.
so i wouldn't put too much thought into whether PvD is a hipocrit or right in his apparent comments |

Does anybody else find this post as ironic as all hell? I believe you were the one who created that massive "DJ Sammy" thread a few days back and argued that DJ Sammy was indeed trance... :stongue: |
Oh woe is me :(, please show me where the irony is? I may have argued that I thought that sammy was trance although he never said he was. |

| Paul sure knows what he is talking about, without paul, armin, corste, and tiesto trance would definately be dead, if it was put in the hands of dj sammy, ian van dahl, and flip n fill, there sound is the same in every track they produce. I feel that trance, is still alive, but its heading towards a diff sound, a more commercialized type sound, well have to wait and see though |

Paul Van Dyk- What he has to say about TRANCE in the new MixMag...
In the October 2003 MixMag, Paul Van Dyk says the following about trance:
"Trance had become a dirty word. Thanks to Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo, Flip 'N' Fill and DJ Sammy, a generation of kids has grown up thinking trance is the tiest music since country and western."
Along with Armin Van Buurren, Tiesto, and Ferry Corsten, Paul Van Dyk and tracks like 'Connected' have saved trance, steering it away from the bird-sings-over-80s-remake formula that was making trance a laughing stock, bringing it back to what it was always meant to be - ing good dancefloor music that messes with your head.
He doesn't want to piss anyone off, so he doesn't like to talk about other DJs. With one exception: Ian Van Dahl gets a kicking for being completely 'cheesy'.
" Cheesy records make proper trance look bad. Of course there are people who buy DJ Sammy records. They're not the same people that buy mine." |
Don't take this out of context. The guy who transcribed this obviously missed the end of quotation after 'country and western'. PvD didn't say anything about Armin, Tiesto, Connected or anything in that paragraph, that's just the author's opinion. Then the other quote starts ith "Cheesy records....". Understand now? |

I dont like Sammy, DJ Mystik, and Scooter (a.k.a 3 fingers up their ass)....
They do nothing but make eurodance and steal other producer's music such as BT - Flaming June....
They can all go to hell for making a classic tune into a peice of and even worse, not giving the originator any props.....
cheesy s. |

No, that was NOT me, Karen Simon.

Per the article: PvD (as he sometimes refers to himself) take the audience with him.
There is not link to the article... because I read it from MixMag. So, go get the October MixMag... and read for yourself.
Per the article, Paul Van Dyk made the following statements, as it was put in quotes:
Ian Van Dahl gets a kicking for being completely cheesy. "Cheesy records make proper trance look bad. Of course there are people who buy DJ Sammy records. They're just not the same people who buy mine." |
