You get the general idea, nobody is going to make websites with fake networking information on them. I guess you cannot handle a mature discussion on this. I'm done. Good luck or whatever with your project if you weren't lying..
The guys at work will get a kick out of this thread tomorrow.

and you said generally in your first statement again...i dont care if 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of internet access is on THE internet, the other .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 is another internet and still accessed, meaning that more than 1 exist, and thus you are wrong.

Ha, I knew I will be able to prove you wrong sooner or later. Your statistics are incorrect, as they add up to 100.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000099999999999999%, which is impossible!!!

I don't see a problem with internet contacts. Saying it's sad because it's less personal and "easy" is just dropping slogans without really thinking it through.
By contacts I don't refer to 30 minute long conversations in some chatroom but to long, stable "realtionships" on the basis of instant msngrs / email.
The internet allows you to be more "selective" which definitely accelrates things. You can, for example, look into a forum which deals with a certain type of music, or any other of your interests and immediately find "soulmates". It is my experience that sharing the same passion for certain hobbies is often only one indication for a genral smiliarity / chemistry between people. It's kind hard to explain....I got to know two guys form my area through music websites and they happened to share many more of my interests, simply because their loving this specific "underground" music (it IS underground here) was just one aspect of a genral open-mindedness referring also to movies, books and what not. So of course, I've got my friends but I also found new friends to hang out/ discuss music/ party with. I think that's great, and I'm grateful for these new possibilites.

As for romantic relationships I don't know....I've had very "deep", strong contacts with 3 girls and met all of them after 3 to 4 years (yes, FOUR YEARS!) and it was just great. The tranistion wasn't akward at all, I just finally won them as "real" friends too. Again I'm grateful as without the i-net I wouldn't have met them.

So the internet is definitely no replacement but just adds and sometimes helps.

I had sex with a girl whom I met online. A lot of people meet that way.

This is the stupidest discussion ever. I guess the dictionary definition should have used the term IP (Internet Protocol) instead of TCP (which is just one wrapper for IP in addition to UDP, ICMP, etc.), since every computer that can be said to have internet access either has a public IP or can access public IPs. Still, I don't see why this required over 50 posts of bull, it has nothing to do with what the thread was originally talking about anyway!

P.S. I like ya Orbax, and you've made a lot of good points in other threads, but we all know that anyone can pass the MCSE by taking 50 sample tests off the CD and memorizing all the answers. That's besides the obvious point that Microsoft's view of the world is a little skewed. :p

And that, IN MY OPINION, is sad that 'most of the people in the world' have resorted to meeting people on a computer because they lack the social skills to do it in person.

Now, flame me please.

Just because someone uses the internet doesn't mean they lack social skills to do it in person, they could do it as well as meeting people in the traditional face to face sense

I've met people from other internet messageboards in London. Was quite funny because we planned to meet in a pub in Mayfair at 6.30pm and none of us knew what we looked like. Since it was a group from the British Airways forum of a frequent flyer messageboard I had to go round to businessmen types asking and holding up a BA First Class baggage tag and asking if it meant anything to them! Quite embarassing!

As for meeting someone of the opposite sex, well it'd be a tough call to make, I guess you have to take each case on its own merits but in general I wouldn't, too many things to go wrong, but as I said each case on its own merits.
