exactly what i was gonna say.

if you have something important on your pc and you know people would try to hack you to get it,

1. don't have it on an internet-connected machine in the first place
2. password protect it 20 times.

the problem with only 70% of the code being released is that Valve licenses (**) engines from other developers [for which they have to sign special non-disclosure contracts] so this opens Valve up to litigation, and also other developers now know what methods valve is implementing in the game so they can released products that can better this or comptete with the game by copying -> the same situation happened to Quake - the source was leaked only days after it was released [even half life implemented some of the leaked code -> this may well be poetic justice from ID :)] anyways, long story short, valve is in up to their necks.

Its a massive mistake to make, to say that it will be the most wanted game of the year:mad:

The source code is pretty easy to compile, you need to use VC6 Pro I believe... I didn't compile it myself, but there is a compiled version floating around. It's pretty useless though, as there's no maps/models/textures :p

here's an interesting article from wired.com

You might know that Jedi Knight and Jedi Acadamy use the Quake 3 engine. This saved Lucas Arts a lot of time and money because they didn't have to make their own engine. Companies will basically copy off the code of HL 2. Why pay for it?

In the words of Valve's Newell:

"Well, this sucks."

I consider Valve to be one of the good guys in the software industry (even though some say they sold out after CS Beta 6). I think it's a real shame... they put a lot of effort (5 years!) into HL2, and it looks great.

In response, I hope everyone will go out and buy a copy, I know I sure will.

:nervous:

And as to the Fanta movies, here's one:
