i think its somewhere around 60fps where the human eye cant tell the difference.. so long as i can play the games at a acceptable level of quality and speed i dont care, who needs pretty wall textures when the aim of the game is to frag :D |

guys guys relax, I know exactly what is bluetooth and 801.11a/b/g purposes.
do some reading on the subject and we'll talk about it in a year. |

no, proof.. gimme something that i should read and i will.. then we can talk. Everything that I have read suggests to me that they are somewhat competing, yet there is certainly no clear winner... USBOTG is another contender...
i gave you a link showing how 'not dead' bluetooth is.. you just CLAIM that it is dead. |

The eye can continue to see differences up to pretty high fps. :P Trust me you can tell. :) I can't find the link right now, but computer FPS are no where near the same as TV fps. ^_^

I'd LOVE to know exactly what they used on http://www.go-l.com/winxp4l/winxp4l/index.htm to tweak their Windows XP Pro like that! I like having all drives on the Start menu like that and having all stats right on the desktop, like they have! Anyone here know what exactly they did? Some sites have been talking about www.go-l.com as a hoax since 2003-09-22, when they first opened up and I'm not 100% sure what to believe, as some info on their site is inaccurate. I do like their motto on the "Technology" page that goes from A-Z but, a lot of it sounds just a BIT far-fetched. No computer can make everything simpler. At least this company seems to care about nothing but QUALITY. Is it possible to get these parts separately and build a PC like what they have there? I'm SO interested in their "PuRAM" RAMdrives (which I found out that they are actually made by Cenatek). I called www.go-l.com earlier and asked about it and they lied. they said A. PuRAM's not made by Cenatek & B. All components are made in the USA.
Doesn't JAPAN and parts of Europe have the highest level of technology worldwide? She also went on to say "Look, are you going to make a purchase from us or are you going to just insult me?" because I ask asking a lot of questions and for certain information [DETAILS!] that she couldn't or wouldn't want to give up.
[EDIT] Just in case you were lazy and didn't want to read the motto on the site, here it is, WITH ALL SPELLING ERRORS MADE BY "L" INTACT & UNCHANGED (I'm so surprised that a company of such "high-calibre" can make this many grammatical mistakes all over their website)
[A-F]
Our business is not about computers. Its about people, passionate about computers. As technology advances to theoretically make things simpler it proceeds in making them usually more complicated. That is the irony of technology, both as a tool and as an imposed dependency. Furthermore, technology does not always mean more ingenuity, added quality, or better products, because many times as it advances, so does the gap that separates the human touch behind who creates and uses it. While electronics are furiously re-invented every day at a faster rate than the market can absorb them, we conversely apply our knowledge and research into existing ones, fully exploiting their maximum potential for both current and future platforms. That's why not all products are created equal, and why not all technologies are alike. And why making good things into great ones sometimes is not as simple as going straight from A to Z. Or then again, is it?
L is a different kind of company working in eccentric ways and is structured as an Advertising Agency, divided by product department, independent account executives, creative teams for each one, and supervised by a central creative executive group. Every project for a new product and drafts for future ones are studied and researched extensively by market segments, audience targets, third party hardware and software road maps, manufacturing availability, budgeting, projected design trends, and many other variables. Since creativity and innovation are associated with open-minds and breaking from the "traditional", at L we believe real productiveness comes from learning attentively with others' feats, not from looking at their mistakes. And since we trust in doers more than talkers, we've built a unique group of team players from diverse business fields to both be inspired by their individual talents, and their common obsession with making great computer products. Because, technology at L, for a change, has a human face. The first step in conceiving new product designs is exchanging ideas and using a lot of scrapbooks. Our team of developers, designers, and technicians is an unique work force, as are the ideas and concepts behind the innovations they conceive. This a young crowd full of ideas with the drive to change the way things are done and make them better. They are people coming from different backgrounds, different professional arenas, different industries and some even from different countries. The products they make are the products they would like to have. Nothing is designed as ego trips nor as personal likings. While almost everyone else in the industry follows each other, we decided not to cut corners and try to solve the technical/design issues everyone else doesn't or simply mask with clever manufacturing. Ethnicities, personal interests and trends aside this exceptional group of creative professionals, is unique in each particular area of expertise, while working together as a team, sharing the common goal of pioneering computing solutions from the ground up, with both free spirited imagination and total commitment to the cause of inventive contribution.
Next, from G to M...
You might be surprise to learn what we are made of. Only about 35% of our collaborators is comprised of native x86/Windows computer designers and programmers. The remaining come from diverse other platforms and trades; about 20% are Apple/Mac developers, 15% from all other computing platforms including Linux and Unix, 15% are advertising agencies and marketing professionals, 10% engineers in the audio, video, media, entertainment fields, 5% are manufacturing and project consultant professionals, and everyone else comes from high-end personal and business electronics, and technology fields that have nothing to do with computers. We believe that the most preeminent innovations come from understanding the importance of collaborative team work the lessons to take from those doing it best in their field. And though our efforts mainly concentrate into the PC/Windows platform, we pay very close attention to the industry's continuing innovations no matter from where they come from, while striving to improve upon their tradition. Only by understanding how much more there is still to do, can we aspire to effectively make it better. And we search extensively both manufacturers and developers that can provide us with the extra brilliance and enthusiasm, we believe great products and ideas are made of. The inclusion of European made technology and electronics components, many handcrafted to perfection, provides us with both development and manufacturing excellence, and utmost attention to detail. That's why inside many of our products you'll find components made for us in places like Germany, Italy, and Denmark. You'd expect to find their quality designs and technology in industries like fashion and sports cars, but probably never in computers. Well, think again. We gather people and ideas from all over the world, in a pool of creativity that impels us daily to try and achieve the next milestone, as part of our standard everyday chores.
Next, from N to R...
When a new design gets a "go", building an actual working sample is the next challenge, because we have wanted to globalize our computer blueprint into one general design, not desktops and laptops independently, the task didn't present itself easy. The motto became "Laptops that think like desktops, and desktops that grow from laptops". Furthermore, we believe that the trend of future personal computing is undeniably in the laptop/mobile format, we thought we would create desktops with the added justifiable volume by including radically advanced technologies impossible to implement into compact mobile designs. In the same manner, the applied research in display technology for example on our monitors, is on pair with the advances in all our other hardware, independently of what the final product(s) is to be applied to or coupled with. We've opted for the innovative approach of re-manufacturing larger components by reducing their size and applying small factor pieces into larger more elaborate ones. This leads to desktops that feature component matrixes derived from micro-technologies, outperforming any traditional design, and to laptops made of miniaturized desktop modules instead of mobile parts making them no-compromise breakthrough performers, not limited achievers due to their sizes. In the same manner, taking advantage of their ultra-small size and high-performance capacity, we've included multi-paralleled RAID laptop Hard Drive setups in our servers, achieving colossal storage numbers with blazing data performance, and included some of our server designed memory management technologies into laptops, leaping their performance into unimaginable benchmarks. Another good example of this multi-crossed platform integration was to take traditionally high-performance desktop cooling components and put them into laptops with massive high-density cooper heat sinks and fans with large blades for reduced noise and increased airflow, while miniaturizing kitchen refrigerators (literally), and applying them into cooling desktops CPUs on our desktops and servers. On some of our systems we take the system hard drives out all together and replace them with Flash RAM based Drives only, allowing data speeds never before achieved on any personal computer at any price. Plus they mean the end of virtual memory and swap file slow-downs delays and System Disk Defrags time-outs (memory is random so it does not need defragging). On all our computer hardware products, many of their critical components are easily upgradeable and configurable to a variety possibilities. We provide and overflow of power, cooling, and performance components that guarantee you, what you don't get even on premium products with others, is what you get standard with ours. Our desktops for example come standard with proprietary high wattage 550W+ power supplies compared to everyone's anemic 200 to 235 watt. Our designs integrate individual fans and air-ducts for heat generating component, every chipset, and every drive, plus large discreet openings around the casings allow for masterful ventilation, and continuous air-flow to all critical components, all and the individual mini-heatsinks covering all major electronic elements. There are no assembly line concepts with us, each system is handcrafted to perfection, like no other. Hundreds of other radical ideas being developed and perfected everyday that are years ahead of our time both in performance and functionality, and only the beginning of the industry-changing way we share today's know-how and tools with tomorrows engineering feats, while connecting brilliant people together in the process.
Next, from S to V...
At [L] we understand that every computer system is different from the next, as different are the hundreds of thousands of possible hardware combinations (memory chips, motherboards, Chipsets, HDs, HD controllers, etc.) and even variations between batches of the same product. We exclusively partner with industry leading names and components, and then spend large man hours' on the development of every computer, in order to exactly matching each piece of hardware with the next while fine-tuning each one with the operating system and third party modular drivers. We select among hundreds of vendors and distributors for specific parts while working on a new design and then during the manufacturing process, individually check them one by one selecting only A-Stock and rejecting any that fails to meet specs. The last main step is making all the pieces work together. Easier said than done. All newly designed hardware now has to "talk" to the software. However not content with that necessary task in a drastic approach to total system integration we go the extra mile and improve upon the design of the software component and drivers that communicates with the hardware. Every active file is exhaustively checked for system compatibility, checked for overall stability, and enhanced to the extreme of its native physical capabilities. Depending on the system, hundreds of tweaks and registry enhancements are applied individually on every L computer design in order to specifically integrate their operational capabilities, to offer a productivity performance, and guaranteed functional stability, unmatched by any other computer manufacturer on the market. The same is applied on upgrade patches and updated drivers, as each one is customized and put to rigorous testing before they are made available for download. We further enhanced the Windows XP Professional's capabilities by integrating a plethora of enhancements to make Windows based computing on a L system, something radically different from what you'll get everywhere else. The entire processes take days, weeks, and sometimes months of continuous work... but we never give up, nor really take a break till its done... and done right.
Next, from W to Z...
To finish, once a system is configured and is being manufactured we individually randomly test one unit out every 100 per batch to re-check for any possible minimal change in hardware components and for variations in initial burn-in electric properties. Finally, prior to shipping each computer is put through a brutal burn-in CPU, Memory, Graphics bus and critical components maximum utilization stress-test for 72 hours. In total, over 300 points are diagnosed in every unit, from sound quality, keyboard function, CD-Drive/ burning physical operation, LCD display stuck pixels, etc, to guarantee its impeccable operation. And at the end, if a system does not benchmark to certain standards we simply do not ship it out and start from scratch. This all adds to around 300 hours of detailed and dedicated manufacturing craftsmanship, put into every machine we build to guarantee you absolute crown performance so that when a system reaches your hands, it has been thoroughly checked by many others before. And because machines can fail even when you've made sure they will not, if by some reason there is a problem, we'll make it right, because for out-of-the-box critical failures, during the first 30 days of your purchase we'll simply replace your unit with a new one. Furthermore, for the long run, while most manufacturers provide you with recovery CDs should ever need to re-initialize or recover your system and OS, we've eliminated that all together (most of us end up loosing those CDs anyway...) Every system we ship comes with one or multiple hidden recovery partitions, containing an image of your computer's configuration as it was shipped. For a full system restore, you'll need no more than press a key at boot up to have the whole operation automatically recover your original configuration in a matter of minutes. And best of all, we've designed all of this in a way that none of your personal files will be lost. Configured as shipped, they sit on another physical drive or partition, remaining safeguarded and intact from system formatting, mandatory recoveries, certain virus attacks and even data corruption accidents. In the end our far-out production system and workflow concept might actually seem surprisingly as simple as going straight from A to Z. And, quite simply, that's the way we want it to be, because that's what using a computer should be all about; simple. That simple.
No one else in the industry goes to such extends.
At [L], we call it the basics. |

yes, pretty textures, when you get 2fps in freecell, i think that's when you know you have a crappy videocard and it's time to upgrade.. can't wait OMG :D:D:D |

he basically says that the application specificness of BT is its weakness. This is total BS, since it is its strenght. MOST people do not want to have to run tons of software to get stuff working. I know you can make WLAN secure using VPN and there certainly will be software to emulate BT stuff, but the advantage is that you don't need to know much to get it working. Additionally, by pairing devices BT is more secure since you don't need to worry about your neighbor listening to your keyboard. It also has a price advantage, seeing that a BT radio/chipset is very cheap, hence it makes SENSE to put it in low-cost devices (keyboards).
In the end, why would you want to put a high-power uC into a keyboard just to handle all the interfacing work that you need, plus a complete IP stack etc. doesn't seem to make much sense to me.
from the article: | quote: | | Then there are the pundits who should know better, prognosticating Bluetooth directly into the grave. Some wireless analysts continue to compare Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, declaring Wi-Fi the winner. That's no different than comparing hot dogs and minivans, and finding hot dogs superior. |
he doesn't seem to think that they are competing standards at all, which is what you were suggesting earlier.
from that | quote: | | Instead, 802.11 will emerge as the de facto standard for connecting wirelessly to the Internet. |
I don't want to connect to the internet with BT (though i am writing this on a BT connection) I want to have my stuff _DEVICES_ talk to each other using BT. I am quite sure that it is lower power that WLAN, which makes it much more sensible for my digital pen to use, so that it can store my meeting notes on my cell phone (in my pocket) that will then pass it on to outlook when I go home...
i did, thanks :) |
