Well admittedly my memory is splotchy at best from all the drinking, but from what I can gather, here are the events of December 1941:
Eastern Front
Tuesday 2nd : Germans patrols are just five miles from the Kremlin. Soviet troops evacuate the last territory in Karelia, taken from Finland in the 1939-1940 war.
Thursday 4th : Temperature falls to -31°F (-37°C) on Russian Front.
Friday 5th : Hitler abandons Moscow offensive for winter. Start of a Soviet counter-offensive in the area of Kalinin, to the Northwest of Moscow.
Saturday 6th : Russian counter-offensive under Zhukov extends to whole Central Front as three Soviet armies, including some 18 divisions from the Russian Far East, with 1,700 tanks and 1,500 aircraft, begin a massive counter-offensive to throw back and destroy the German forces of Heeresgruppe Mitte before Moscow.
Monday 8th : The Soviet offensive against Heeresgruppe Mitte succeeds in breaking through the German lines in many places, causing hasty withdrawals by ill-prepared and frost-bitten troops that are forced to abandon much heavy equipment that was immobilised by the below-zero weather.
Tuesday 9th : The Red Army recaptures Klin and Tikhivin.
Friday 12th : Bulgaria, Hungary and Rumania declare war on the United States.
Saturday 13th : The Red Army launches a counter-offensive from the Kalinin area toward besieged Leningrad. German forces of Heeresgruppe Mitte evacuate Tula.
Sunday 14th : German forces evacuate Kalinin, 100 miles to the Northwest of Moscow.
Thursday 18th : Field Marshal von Brauchitsch resigns as head of OKH. Hitler himself assumes personal command of the Army, especially its operations on the Eastern front.
Friday 19th : Hitler takes over personal command of the German Army, ordering ‘No withdrawal’.
Saturday 20th : German forces of Heeresgruppe Mitte retreating from before Moscow reach a new defensive line more than 100km to the west, where, following strict orders by Hitler, they are to stand and fight off any further Soviet advances.
Sunday 21st : Typhus reported to be sweeping through the German forces along the Russian front.
Thursday 25th : Over 3,000 starve to death in Leningrad.
Friday 26th : The Russians land on the Kerch Peninsula to relieve the siege of Sevastopol in Crimea.
Saturday 27th : The Red Army continues its counter-offensive in the Kalinin area.
Monday 29th : German troops evacuate Kerch and Fedosia.
Tuesday 30th : The Russian success in the Crimea continues.
Wednesday 31st : All further attacks against the Crimean fortress of Sevastopol are halted for the winter.

Sunday 14th : Convoy HG76 (32 ships), sets sails from Gibraltar with heavy escort. Royal Navy destroyers sink two Italian Cruisers off Cape Bon.
Friday 19th : Frogmen of the Italian Navy penetrate the port of Alexandria in Egypt and damage the British battleships HMS Valiant and Queen Elizabeth.
Africa
Sunday 7th : Panzer Army Afrika retreats westwards through Libya, completing its withdrawal to the Gazala line.
Monday 8th : British troops succeed in breaking the axis siege of Tobruk..
Wednesday 17th : After strong resistance, Rommels forces retreat from the Gazala defensive area.
Friday 19th : British retake Derna from axis forces.
Sunday 21st : British successes continue in North Africa.
Tuesday 23rd : Under continuous pressure, Rommel and his Afrikakorps start to evacuate Benghazi.
Thursday 25th : The British retake Benghazi.
Asia/Pacific
Monday 1st : State of Emergency in Malaya and Hong Kong is put on ‘stand by’.
Tuesday 2nd : The Battleship Prince of Wales and the Battle Cruiser Repulse arrive in Singapore.
Friday 5th : Japanese fleet is officially reported moving south.
Saturday 6th : Roosevelt makes a personal appeal to the Japanese Emperor Hirohito for peace.
Sunday 7th : At 7:55 Honolulu time, 384 Japanese Navy bombers and torpedo bombers taking off from three aircraft carriers launch a surprise attack against the US Pacific Fleet stationed at Pearl Harbour, Territory of Hawaii, sinking or seriously damaging 18 major warships, including the battleships Arizona, Nevada and Virginia, and destroying on the ground 180 USAAF aircraft. American casualties amount to 2,729 killed and 1,178 wounded; Japanese losses are 29 aircraft (59 airmen) and five mini-submarines. The Japanese also attack Malaya, Shanghai, Manila, Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore. Japanese declare war on US and UK.
Monday 8th : Japanese land in Thailand, North East Malaya. Guam, Midway Wake and the Philippines are bombed. Offensive against Hong Kong begins. Thailand surrenders. The United States and Great Britain declare war on Japan.
Tuesday 9th : Japanese land on Luzon, Philippines. China declares war on Japan, Germany and Italy.
Wednesday 10th : British retreat in Malaya after the loss of Kota Bahru airfield. Prince of Wales and Repulse are sunk by Japanese aircraft off Malayan coast.
Thursday 11th : US Marine gunners and airmen repulse first Japanese landing attempt at Wake.
Monday 15th : British retreat in Malaya and Burma’s southern most tip. Artillery battle rages at Hong Kong.
Wednesday 17th : Japanese land in North Borneo and are only 10 miles from Penang in Malaya.
Friday 19th : Japanese land in Hong Kong. British evacuate Penang
Monday 22nd : Japanese launch the main invasion of Philippines in the Lingayen Gulf.
Tuesday 23rd : Japanese occupy Wake Island.
Wednesday 24th : More Japanese troops land in Luzon in the Philippines.
Thursday 25th : Hong Kong surrenders after a 7 day siege, with heavy Canadian casualties being reported. RAF and American Volunteer Group shoot down 51 Japanese aircraft over Rangoon for loss of just 12 of their own number.
Tuesday 30th : Congress Party in India supports the war effort. Gandhi resigns leadership.
Americas
Monday 1st : US-Japanese talks continue, Roosevelt curtails holiday.
Sunday 7th : US decares war on Japan and begins mobilisation.
Monday 8th : US Congress declares war after personal address by Roosevelt.
Thursday 11th : US declares war on both Germany and Italy. Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua also declare war on Germany.
Monday 15th : US Secretary of the Navy tells Congress that 2,729 were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour.
Friday 19th : Colombia severs diplomatic relations with Germany and Italy.
Monday 22nd : Prime Minister Churchill arrives at the White House as the guest of President Roosevelt for the Washington Conference.
Friday 26th : Churchill addresses Joint Session of Congress and receives a rousing ovation, but says allied offensive must wait until 1943.
Western Europe
Tuesday 2nd : Churchill introduces a new National Service Bill, including compulsory service for women.
Saturday 6th : Britain declares war on both Finland and Hungary.
Monday 8th : Britain and dominions declare war on Japan.
Wednesday 10th : Karel Richter, a German spy who parachuted into Hertfordshire is executed at Wandsworth Prison.
Thursday 11th : In a speech before the Reichstag, Hitler, after denouncing the un-neutral and warlike anti-German policies of President Roosevelt and citing Germany's obligations under the Tri-Partite Pact with Japan and Italy, declares war on the United States. Italy follows suit some hours later.
Saturday 27th : A combined services commando raid on German occupied islands off Norway results in 200 Germans killed and 16,000 tons of shipping destroyed.
