Heh, even got a couple of friends (same region) into the stuff to :)... Got them started up with ISOS 1,2 and 3 and all of ATB's albums... they don't seem to mind one bit :D

I couldn't agree more!

Yes mate, but that isn't techno. That's fluffy trance that anyone can like. Techno is ing heavy, and its hardly even music (although it is brilliant).
Trance is not techno. My mum likes some trance. Trance tops the charts and gets played on the radio. Techno is killer, and I'd agree that Christian's are unlikely to listen to it, cos its so aggressive. |

Again another total misconception.. Techno is not all about bangin beats and hard music.. Good techno is a combination of all the elements, Trippy floaty synths, Funky bass lines and clever drum patterns.
Again the question has to be asked.. WHAT THE FUK HAS SOMEONES RELIGION GOT TO DO WITH THE MUSIC THEY LIKE????????
This is a fuking annoying subject and its about time it disappeared! |

I'd argue, but as you have a Meganite sig, I see you know what you are talking about.
The tough thing is that "techno" is such a generalisation two people can mean totally different things by it. The techno I listen to is pounding an aggressive though. |

let me state this once and for all
TRANCE IS NOT A SUB-GENRE OF TECHNO
TECHNO IS A SUB-GENRE OF ELECTRONICA AND SO IS TRANCE AND HOUSE AND TRIBAL ETC.

According to the world's leading source of languages and their meaning (yup...good ol' Webster):
techno- (as in techno-pop or techno-rock, styles of popular music utilizing electronically created sounds)
Date: 1987
- electronic dance music that features a fast beat and synthesized sounds usually without vocals or a conventional popular song structure
Therefore, one can deduce that the terms Techno AND Electronica can be used interchangeably. Trance is only a small part of Techno. (the best part!)
Can we put this thread to bed?:whip:  |

Ya well as you said its from 1987 and you know not too many electronica sub-genres existed and so ill show you again
here it goes
ELCTRONICA} Trance, Techno, House, Ambient, Drum N'Bass, Tribal
those are some main ones
but ya dont put trance into techno because you cant say that out of ty techno comes out amazing trance because techno is too narrow to fit trance into
now when you say electronica, its very wide and holds all categories of trance , techno etc.
i cant believe senior trance addicts are ignorant enough to say something like *techno breaks down into trance, house etc.
only hicks here in texas are ignorant enough to refer to anything with electronic sounds as techno

Seriously, it sounds corny, but music IS my religion. |
Pulser said it... Phat track too...
nah, seriously, my $0.02:
I think that generally, music taste in general is a purely personal thing, sure, it is influenced by your social surroundings and in the case of strict religious families, parents may stop their children from listening to trance/techno etc. because of the attached drug references and just the fact that, like it or not, drugs are fairly present in the whole clubbing/raving scene... But then again, which (responsible) parent would encourage their kids to go out and get messed up three nights a week?
I dont think that is a religious thing... You also have to remember that trance, like it or not, in most places of the world, is a minority genre of music. If you ask someone in the general public about trance, most likely you will get a response along the lines of "boring repetitive music that people get high to" which we all here, being tranceADDICTS, know is not true, but also being here, we all also know that it CAN be repetitive and ive already mentioned the drug thing. Not meaning to subdivide the community or anything but, is it just that the non-religious portion of society are more tolerant to drug issues than the religious, i think that religion is a good idea, in that it upholds morals that, generally all people should follow religious or not, the ideas are good, but the fact is, that religion as a whole has lost its steam, the fear factor that it instilled in years past is no longer present, the new generation of religious followers are questioning their beliefs, they want evidence. sure, we all know drugs are dangerous, be they x, speed, alcohol, tobacco, even things like paracetamol or the like, all CAN be dangerous, but only if used in the wrong way.
In summary, i think that the whole religious vs. techno thing is purely a matter of religious followers trying to keep themselves safe from drug issues. Imagine what the whole electronig genre would be like without drugs... it would be entirely different. the whole idea of this sort of music is to excite, energise and give adrenalin rushes, which is a drug of itself in some sort of ways.
It is something that you either do or don't like and i dont think that being religious aside from drug issues, has anything to do with actually liking the music.
Music is merely a search for what makes a person happy, what in their opinion is good and keeps them interested. As is this, it is MY opinion as are other people entitled to theirs, i have tried to ride the fence a little and my beliefs on religion on a whole are another topic.
And on a more lightheartened note:
"And For tonight, God Is A DJ" |
