LOL !!!!!!!!!

Yesterday I went to a Guitar Center, which carries four Sony headphones - that store carries the MDR-V500DJ, MDR-V700DJ and MDR-V900 (but no MDR-V600--it carries the MDR-7506 in its place). Too bad it had no demo V700DJ's, so I demoed the MDR-V500DJ. Too bad the right channel was broken - but judging by my demo with my portable CD player, I could tell already that the V500DJ actually sounded better than the f**kin' V600! (Though I still don't particularly care for it - the highs are muffled compared to my 7506.)

I may still go to another Guitar Center location to try those V700's out (though I probably won't buy them at this time).

Mac2LC,

1. No, they aren't. Read this ENTIRE thread for reasons why.
2. $100 is still 400% overpriced, as the $25 Koss UR-20's sound the same, and, besides, the $80 Sony MDR-V6 sound better.
3. Because they have been bought out by Sony! And listen to live mixes done by those pro DJ's... notice they don't have any LOW bass in mixes done with those cans. I wonder why? The answer is, they don't have any low bass because the DJ can't HEAR it TO MIX IT!

*Dude, just TRY the Koss UR-20's, okay? And keep an open mind, will ya?

You know, *I* would "give a " if I was paying 400% more than something is worth! That's a ripoff! And do you want to know WHY the VCRAPDJ series is so expensive? It shouldn't be. In Japan, that series is like, a third as expensive, which is closer to the actual value of the cans. Anyways, when that series was first introduced (before the phrase "Sony Quality" was termed and sony was just another company), they were that cheap here to, but, then, the Japanese Yen got weak to the US dollar, and Sony, realizing that they now had market share, and, therefore, didn't have to MAKE so high quality products any more, becuase people thought their products were good (and, before they had name recognition, they WERE good! The V6's were designed before the Sony name was big.), so, now, with yen going screwy against USD, sony just let the price go up and up and up, and kept making their products look cooler and cooler, and sound worse and worse, and people just kept buying and buying and buying, until we get to the current mess we have now: people thinking that the VCRAPDJ series sounds good, people thinking Streetstyle phones sound good, and people willing to pay more that $25 for all of the crap that sounds bad.

*pause, and then laughs* Arguing like a girl? Max, you're the one, I believe, who is screaming. Heheheh... *checks your info* Oh, you're 13. That's why...

*falls over laughing* Those UR-20's SUCK for DJing!!! Their earcups don't swivel far enough for one-sided monitoring - and they're very bulky, so you can't easily move an earcup off of an ear for monitoring from loudspeakers (those super-bulky earcups get in the way). So why do you recommend many of the headphones that aren't at all suitable for DJs? :p

All of a sudden, I can no longer hear any low bass at all - not even from my MDR-7506's! AARRRRGH!!! My hearing's all f**ked up!!!!!!!!:eek:
dazzed
for all you retards who are writing.

the mvdj700's are the best. all the djs wear them.

shut. the. . up.
if all the djs whore thongs on their in heads would u do it you following pieces of mindless . if you wanna defend your earphones, defend them from experience. just cuz some hotshot dj wears them DOES NOT MEAN . maybie they are given them by promotion and are too damn busy to hit a store. maybie they just use them for beat matching and dont care if they sound good. and if your bragging about boy george wearing them, maybie he just wears em cuz he thinks they make him look more like a wacko.

ps i sampled the sony headphones, my friends own them, and after sampling i bought a technics rpdj-1200a.
djdawn
i have those technics, too. But I think they are CRAP. Everybody's technics lost one channel after 2 months to a year, because of the swiveling tearing on the wire:mad:
And to gluegun: I think you know a lot about headphones, but you don't DJ, right? I agree with you that many DJs use the Sonys cause they got a deal for that. But that's not the reason that their live-mixes don't have any bass (which I doubt). This is more a recording problem, I'd say. Also, I've been spinning for 8 years now and would never use the headphones for EQ-ing. As almost every DJ I know, I keep most of the EQs near the center all the time. Only when in the mix I will take out the bass of one of the records and "change" the bass from record A to B. All the other EQing depends on the monitor you are using. And this is the real problem, cause many club owners don't care to spend real bucks on this. But it's the most important part of the whole club system. If the DJ listens to his own set over this cheap-ass PA monitor, he will f**k up the EQ for sure. But that's not the headphones' fault.

gluegun, could you please inform me about the HD25's and the SP's sensitivity. I am interested in these, but whenever I see a DJ who played before me, they have the Phones volume all the way up, whereas I need to stay at 3-4 with my technics.

I agree that the sony v700's are crap.. I bought them 6 months ago to replace my sennheisers hd25sp.. Initially i thought they sounded good cos they were pretty loud.. But after using it for a few months i kinda noticed it was hard to mix especially if u have a split cue on the mixer and try to mix in the phones.. I've gone back to using my 5 year old sennheisers and going to buy the hd25...
Gluegun
djdawn,

The HD25SP and the HD25's are both pretty efficient-good enough to be powered by a portable, even. The 25SP have an impedance of 85 ohms, whereas the 25's are 70 ohms. I would think that both would go quite loud in any system.

Shadyslim,

Yea, yea, sorry...hey, do the Koss R100's swivel enough?

ShadySlim
Gluegun, I haven't seen any R100's in person, so I can't comment here. And as for my sometimes f**ked-up hearing, my low-bass hearing returned. My sinuses had been intermittently acting up, f**king up my low-bass sensitivity.

As for the sensitivity of the Sennheiser HD 25, it's 120dB @ 1kHz @ 1Vrms - equivalent to about 108dB @ 1mW. The HD 25-SP is lower in sensitivity [100dB @ 1kHz @ 1Vrms = 89dB @ 1mW]. But many very-low-voltage headphone outputs can drive 85-ohm headphones more efficiently [at a given voltage level] than they do 24-ohm headphones.
dj alonzo
I had the Sennheiser HD-25sp and replaced them wuth the Techies...
When i was in the store testing them they sounded sooooooo much better than those crappy V700DJ's!!!
