As almost every DJ I know, I keep most of the EQs near the center all the time. Only when in the mix I will take out the bass of one of the records and "change" the bass from record A to B. COMPLETELY AGREE...FOR PRODUCING NO DOUBT...U GONNA NEED GOOD MONITORS BECAUSE EQ IS REALLY IMPORTANT THERE....
BUT FOR DJ'N BASICLY ALL THAT MATTERS IS MATCH THE BEAT EXACTLY, and make it sound good together when u mix..i don't think EQ is the main thing there....Yes a lot of DJ's take out the bass on the deck B when they fade to it.........That's about it...If I would write more Mr.Shady Slim will start rapping to it :p :p :p :p :p :p |

Max2LC, The Sony MDR-V700DJ's are among the better headphones - for beat matching. And had the likes of Tiesto and Paul van Dyk been doing the mixing at a club near where I live, that's exactly what those big-name DJs will use those "over-hyped" MDRV-700's for. (In other words, look at the box that the MDRV-700's came packaged in - they're for "DJ Remix Use", NOT for critical music listening - and those big-name DJs will seldom use the MDRV-700's for critical music listening.) So, those so-called "headphone gods", I don't give a f**k on how a pair of headphones designed for DJs sound, as long as they do their intended job well. But I'll definitely use some of the headphones that have been recommended by those "headphone gods" for music listening.
And whoever said the MDR-V700DJ headphones suck has obviously been using them for the WRONG purpose.

if you know what good, clean sound is suppose to sound like, go with sennheiser hd25, hd25sp. The difference between the sennheisers and ANY SONY is just too obvious.
I can't believe some of you still think the sony's are better, I've tried the v6, v600, v700 and it's awful compared to the sennheisers. The difference is so clear but some of you still can't notice it?
some of you must've grown up on little boom boxes and don't know what clear sound is suppose to sound like. I grew up with high end, home audiophile equipment so I know. If you know what good, clear strong sound is suppose to sound like, you'll know the sennheisers are the way to go.
not only do they sound 1000 times better, they weigh less than half of any sony v6, v600, v700, that way you don't have to feel like you have a vice on your head, the lightness is just amazing. IT'S GOOD FOR BOTH DJ MONITORING AND CRITICAL STUDIO LISTENING. |

Yea, I know what you're saying. I've got the full sized cans that are one step up in quality from the HD25's--the Beyerdynamic DT831's...they rawk, but they need some juice behind them, though.

If you will read back a little, yea, I *DID* say that they were capable of using the V700's because they used them in so narrow an application--IE, JUST beat matching... However, I do think that, for that purpose, they are overpriced for what you get... |

That tremendous extra cost (of those V700's) ACTUALLY goes into making a normally mid-bass-heavy pair of headphones much more convenient to DJ with! I actually tried DJ'ing with cheaper headphones with the same type of sound... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Those cheaper cans REALLY SUCK for DJ'ing!!!!!!!!! That pair (I don't want to mention the brand or model) doesn't swivel AT ALL, and if I tried setting one of its earpieces off an ear, it just keeps getting back in the way! And another pair of "DJ" cans that are very inexpensive had no bass whatsoever - not even the mid-bass!
And I actually shopped for a pair of mid-bass-heavy pair of headphones that are TRULY suitable for DJ's - and ALL of them cost well over $100 at retail, with mostly mediocre sound quality for music to boot! (Cheaper headphones either have a relatively weak mid-bass response or don't swivel far enough to allow one-sided monitoring!)
So, Gluegun, if you're DJ'ing, you'll just have to settle for a HORRIBLE performance-to-price ratio when it comes to headphones! All of the headphones with a GOOD performance-to-price ratio are TRULY unsuitable for DJ's! :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p |

Well, I think I figured it out...We need to ask this question when trying to find DJ headphones:
Does the DJ NEED bloated midbass/lower midrange/upper bass for beat matching, or can they do with a more accurate set of cans?
If the answer is no, they can get all of the dj-specific construction from a good, cheap, high quality set of cans with a good value, but if the answer is yes, they will have to pay extra for a far lower quality set of cans, to get the dj-specific construction. |

I have the technics, which i consider to have nice clean bass. i notice that if my beat matching is slightly (very slightly) off, that the bass still hit together but it doesnt have that clean THUMP. I'd imagine if i had a pair of cans that had super powerful but not clean bass. i wouldn't be able to distinguish the difference until it was playing live. and once its live it's risky to start touching your records.
i say go high end - money allowing |
