Well, Transa, that Bose audio system itself sucks - especially for such a high price! I demoed that system's headphone output, and found their frequency response to be extremely coloured - in fact, the only headphones that sounded "right" directly out of that system's headphone jack (to my ears) are those Sony MDR-V700DJ's that those "headphone gods" like Gluegun and Neruda are dissing. (Those headphones do suck for classical and jazz on most other systems.) Another possibility is that the headphone op-amps of most minisystems - such as your Bose - are nearly as gutless as those of most portable CD and MD players. In fact, the Sennheiser HD 495's are especially tough on headphone amps - they are low-impedance, low-efficiency headphones, and thus need a lot of output current capability that's beyond that of many headphone amps.
So, Transa, you need a full-sized component audio system to listen to music, not some cheesy and overpriced minisystem that only sounds good with the equally crappy loudspeakers that came with it. And BTW, you have posted your original question in the wrong group of forums - trancEaddict is a group of forums catering primarily to Trance music and to DJs; your question really belongs to HeadWize or Head-Fi.
The saying is: NO HIGHS, NO LOWS, IT MUST BE BOSE. :p |

Heheheh, Transa. I really mean this motto:
BOSE BLOWS!
And I will clarify some of the things that I said about that Bose system... The control unit, with the tuner, CD player, and preamp with headphone jack, has no speaker amplifier whatsoever - and (as I said) a REALLY crappy headphone output. And that control unit is designed to work only with the crappy Acoustimass speakers (with their proprietary built-in amplifiers) that came with that system. And worse, the connections between the control unit and the speakers are proprietary, so you can forget about upgrading the speakers on that way overpriced piece of crap.
And BTW, you can buy mini- and micro- audio systems that deliver near-audiophile sound quality. Unfortunately, the ultra-expensive Bose systems are not among them. :( |

| Gluegun, the last few posts between Max2LC and dj alonzo are REALLY off topic! And read my last couple of posts for the answer to the original poster's question. |

Sorry, Transa, for the ranting in the past two or three posts - and you didn't mention what are the exact components in your system. When you said "Bose audio system" it could mean the AcousticWave table radio, one of those LifeStyle "minisystems" - or, a full-sized component audio system that just happens to have Bose speakers connected to it. Can you please tell me the exact components in your system?
BTW, I did mention why the Sennheiser HD 495 may have sucked in your system. It is low impedance (32 ohms) and low efficiency (only 91dB @ 1mW - don't be misled by its 106dB sensitivity rating; Sennheiser rates sensitivity by a different method than most other brands), so that it's particularly tough on many headphone outputs. And if you said that it sucks, it could be that even on a full-sized component receiver, you probably had to turn up the receiver's volume control to a significantly higher setting than you would have with most other headphones in order to get the same loudness level. Another possibility is that you may have had equalizer or tone controls set to any setting other than "0" or "FLAT" and/or you may have had that "Loudness" button or bass boost button switched ON, or that your system may have had a "loudness/bass boost" function that can't be manually switched off. A third possibility is that your 495's may have been defective. Transa, can you tell me precisely what's wrong with the 495 - bass, highs, mids, loudness and distortion? "They suck!" just doesn't cut it. |

Im using the lifestyle 901 system,it comes with hot speakers, but i always want more :-) so i have hooked it up to a sony amplifier and attatched an extra 4 harman kardon speakers.
But it sonds exactly the same on any platform.I mean, perhaps they didnt suck in other ppls eyes, but my sister has a set of 9.99 aiwa cans and the sennheisers quality and response was not a patch on them, and when i listened to bassy music/films,the treble was cut out whenever there was the slightest low frequency in there, and the feel so horribly flimsy,if fake headphones where around,i could swear they where from a spanish marketplace! |
