LOL @ the informal AUSTRALIAN BBQ STANDARDS
legislation should be introduced to avoid such confusion.
act. 1.1 the act of 'bringing your own meat' shall be permitted at all times unless indicated otherwise at the time of invitation.
act. 1.2 making out with a distant cousin at a family barby shall be treated with the same discord and disgust as any other time such an act would occur [TAS, SA states excluded] |

of course there is nothing wrong with bringing your own meat to a bbq, but the point is a guest shouldn't be expected to. As part of the hosts invitation there is an implied term they will supply the basic requirements of the bbq.
Also implied is the requirement for anyone attending to supply a side dish which will complement what the host will provide.
simple really. |

well, heres how it all works;
if you are invited to a BBQ, the meat should be supplied for you and most probably the beer. You on the other hand should take a 6 pack of beer (to drink after you sink the hosts piss).
A salad or something similar should be taken as well by the ppl attending, regardless if you are asked or not.
You can take meat, but its rude to be asked to take meat, it also looks a little bit weird to take meat, so if you do, tell them it was your girlfriends / mums / any females idea. Actaully, stuff that, don't take meat. Take more beer.
Also, never take control of the cooking, thats the hosts job unless he passes the tongs to you when he goes to get you and him a beer or goes to the toilet; and its then compulsary to turn all the meat, regardless how much it has / hasn't been turned.
I think Ghostface has got the idea pretty well down pat, buts hes a Tasmanian, meaning he knows how to sink piss / attend BBQs. |

Its Simple, meat and the bbq is supplied by the host... Piss should be brought unless stated otherwise. If asked to supply own meat might as well stay home and have a bbq by yourself. |

I dont really care.. If someone asks me to bring my own meat I'm not going to be offended :rolleyes:
So many people are picky these days about what they will/wont eat that it's probably easier.
If I was to have a bbq at mine I would probably supply the sausages, a bit of steak, salad, bread etc but if you want your $100/kg organic-grain-fed-prime beef or some weird vegie-tofu-lentilbean patties then bring them yourself :p
If the bbq was a meet up in a park or something (ie. not in someone's backyard) then I would expect that everyone would bring their own unless some sucker wanted to buy the lot ;) |
