i think bipolar disorder is a very over-diagnosed disease. i dont doubt that you need help and that you probably should be on meds right now, but i have trouble grasping the concept that so many people in our country are truly chemically imbalanced. i get upset sometimes that our culture attacks depression with meds that we dont really understand instead of truly investigating the causes.... |

| yea the reason why so many people are diagnosed w/ bipolar,ADD or anxiety disorder is mainly because the people w/ the problem go to psychiatrists as opposed to a licensed pyschologist. psychiatrists will just do an examination, make a diagnosis, and send you off w/ about 3 diff prescriptions in your hand in about 15 minutes (after waiting in the lobby for 30) without ever getting to the root of the problem. |

the whole process disturbs me greatly. i went to a therapist once and one of the first things she recommended was going to a pschiatrist to get something perscribed. it irritates me that people dont even try to help you. |

On the other hand most people who suffer from such problems want a clear pathological diagnosis for convenience sake, or simply due to the fact that our rational minds hardly comprehend psychological problems( = emotions ) that are irrational per se. |

does that bother you? now that you are out of the hospital are you going to try and understand why you feel so depressed? do you already? (sorry if this is invasive) the whole process boggles me and i dont understand how people do get better. |

simple - drugs. instead of curing the problem they only suppress it with drugs and then call it a 'cure' - all bs.
they don't even know what really causes mental problems, they know that giving you lithium makes you less depressed, but the illness is STILL THERE. instead of naturally working through the messed up chemical imbalance in your brain you take drugs. |
