sorry, i'm just a strong advocate for the maintain the status quo for the ability to edit/delete legitimate threads foundation. :D

I agree that a time limit on the edit function would make people think twice for what they say. It keeps people accountable and would hopefully curb the number of immature posts that occur.

you can only edit your posts for 28800 minutes which is..... oh im too lazy to do the math.

anyways.
Im all in favour of not being able to delete, only edit. a double post isnt that bad, and takes 3 seconds for a mod to fix, while it would add to the continuity of the forums in general.

anyone heard of the preview button?

theres no need for the edit button other then to edit lists....

How do you feel about that R.J?

I think it just shows one's maturity level when they threaten to delete threads due to view contrary to their own. Ultimately I have little respect for anybody who threatens to do anything as a consequence for merely posting an opposing opinion.

If someone wants to act like that:

More importantly though: I don't like not having the ability to delete, edit, or otherwise modify my posts.

You should see some of the diarrhea that flows out my fingers. Depending on my state of mind, frame of mind or mood - it ranges from non-English babble to bursts of frustration to something comparable to the prose of deities. Plus - I like to go back and correct my spelling/grammar errors. :)

If it ain't broke - why fix it?

Interesting argument R.J.

Because I think this proves the need for more constraint and less reliance on the edit button. I think a constant amongst T.A problem areas is the fact that people post without thinking of the consequences (or rather the outcome). Even though it’s nice to fix spelling errors (which could easily be noticed upon giving a proofread), the fact that we can ultimately delete an entire segment of people’s opinions is a bit inequitable. (and highly unrepresentative of evolutionary discussion)

Some good arguments here, but I'm still with Jon on this one... people need to learn that when you type something hurtful, there's consequences. You can't edit/delete something you SAY.. why be able to do it here, on a discussion forum? Why not let the people who maintain the lists have a longer, or unlimited edit capability, and limit it to a couple of hours even for the rest of us... 20 days seems a little extreme.

whoah... "comparable to the prose of deities." :) wow.
