Logic tells you that your chance of success is higher if you recommend trance because this is a trance forum.
Thinking about this: it's all based on your top20 list; so if you want to put techno type songs in your list this may handicap someone who's here to find trance and knows little about other electronica, which would make it hard for them to find you a song you liked.
Just trance for now. Keep it simple. I'm not gonna be strict or anything though.

Okay, we can't endorse fileswapping in here, because it's illegal, and just plain EEEVIL! If you have no way of getting samples legally :) (god I hate tiptoeing around this crap - do artists want us to discover their music or not) by yourself then PM your apponent and get them to send you a low quality legal sampple (you know what I mean - figure it out). Somehow we'll get the sounds to ya so you can make your assessment.

Short description of what I like:
(Three main categories)
1. The strong progressive trance of 98-2000: Early Bedrock, Hook, and Fluid recordings, early Global Underground. Early Deepsky, X-Cabs, Evolution, Breeder, etc.
2. Some uplifting, but usually only of a PvD/Tiesto/Solar Stone type. Dislike the standard ASOT uplifting stuff out there today with the same cookie-cutter synths; Armin does the uber-uplifting best, so leave it to him.
3. Tech-trance: Marco V, Oliver Lieb, Katana, some Mauro Picotto (Tiesto's Flight 643 and Traffic, too). Awesome stuff.

Slusnik Luna - Sun (Ambassador Mix) [THUMBS DOWN (3)! When I saw 'Ambassador' I thought you might have had me -- I loved The Fade -- but unfortunately the track is too repetitively percussive and I did not like the lead synth at all. Sorry.]

Dominion - The Gate (Original Mix) [The bass and synths have definitely shown their age, but the vocal hook is irresistable. I wish it was a bit more driving, because there's just minutes and minutes of draggy buildup (the heartbeat thing gets a tad irritating, for example), but the 8-9:30 section is just brilliant. Want to hear the Renaissance Mix too, if I can find it. Hopefully this isn't premature, but THUMBS UP (1).]
Hopefully I can try one of these again soon; feels like I'm leaving too early. Maybe a losers' bracket? ;) |
