Why is dance music dominanted by males?

There is no arguing that dance music the vast majority of people in the scene: DJ, producer, audience are male. It seems to me there is a bigger difference between the sexes in dance than other genres of music.

Here is my evidence:
* The top 100 dj list there are less than 5 female DJs. 4 if E-Vangelist counted right. ;-)

* Look at the dance floor. Mostly males.

Enlighten me.

well...you guest it...the dance community is really just a bunch of closet (and some out of the closet) homosexuals....;)

actually i think that if a girl dj really rocked she could become quite popular

well the electronic music scene did originate out of gay clubs into the mainstream.

but i dont think that has a lot to do with it these days.

maybe dance music doesnt seem as glamourous to females as other genres e.g R & B etc.?

I don't want to seem stereotypical but all the electronics maybe intimidate females as well.

i have always wondered the same thing. But its not just dance music, it seems music in general. Yes i know there are a ton of female artists out there, but there are just as many, if not more male artists.

If you look at bands, most of them consist of males. The female is the singer, but males like to use tools (intruments) and females like to use their voices. More female bands are coming out yes, but still its dominated by males.

My only explaination is that you have to look back at the cave man. Males used tools do their work, hunt. Women used their voices to build relationships, hence why women are more social and better equiped to care for children. All throughout time men have played with tools, all the greatest scientists, inventors, have been males. I know some of that is due to males limiting female intervention, but you cant chalk it all up to that.

Even in the production area, its always males who are at the top of the game. I think males are just more comfortable using tools, or instruments, because of evolution.

Hope i didnt offend any females out there.:)

some men like to pose and look cool, some men dont

most women like to pose and look cool/ or chat

you cant really do that much to trance.

i think that the female djs out there really play the type of music that we like on this site...i think most of them play house or dnb or stuff like that...and the ones that do play other stuff play cheese...well...i don't really know...i can't speak for all female djs out there, but i don't think that is too unrealistic???

This must have something to do with it. I have always wondered the same thing myself. One of the only female DJs I've seen is DJ Irene...

That's a good thought but what about the dance floor? There are more females than males in the world yet if you goto any big DJ party, the demographics still lean vastly towards males.

DJ Rap, DJ Irene and Suzy Solar are the only females DJs I have experience with.

Females are a vocal creature. Trance or EDM in general doesn't contain enough vocal material to satisfy their musical needs. There are the few exceptions though. ;)

who the hell knows why girls generally dont like electronic music... its like asking why the computer industry is dominated by males...

though my guess is that electronic music is not very sexual, more intellectual :conf:
