Females are a vocal creature. Trance or EDM in general doesn't contain enough vocal material to satisfy their musical needs. There are the few exceptions though. ;) |
u got it on the nose... woman need the vocals, especially to sing along to. Instrumental art is very hard for woman to grasp they think emotions are normally expressed through words; where as men feel much different about the subject. I just think woman are becoming more & more social and men are not... that is why there is a huge gap in sex with accordance to dance music. |

| i agree w/ the females are more vocal thing...when me and my friend Crystal go to clubs we always go to clubs playing house and trance...and she always complains about how there are no words and she needs words to follow along with the song... |

Hehe, yeah it's wierd, especially as the general stereotypical male can't dance :p
The whole vocal effort does seem to be a big thing with the ladies, but who knows why?? Girls i've chatted to about it say that they prefer R'n'B over things like trance because it's made to make you dance slowly, which in their eyes, is far more sexy than two or three hundred sweaty men galavanting around like hooligans to a pumpin' beat.
Personally though, I'd much rather see a cyber-chick glowing to the max and giving it her all on the dancefloor (sweaty or not), than watch a load of girls surrounded by apes who look like they're trying desperately to climb on them (i.e dancing to Hip Hop/Rap)

:haha:
so true...trance/house dancing seems to me to be a lot more free than hip-hop dancing...if i'm in a club where they're playing hip-hop i always feel as if there's only one acceptable way to dance (the 'sexy' way which white guys can't do), but in a trance situation it feels like it's okay to dance in any way you want and nobody's gonna care (probably cause everyones been droppin too many e's, but it's all good :p) |

and the most well known/biggest female djs are hard house djs
Lisa Lashes, Anne Savage, Lisa Pin-Up
i could easily name 5 or 10 female HH djs but probably only a couple of female trance djs. Bizzare |

| girls r 2 looks concious me thinks ... when they go out they always wondering whose checking them out and like to conduct themselves in a dignified manner ... i guess they prefer bumping and grinding over letting your hair lose cuz hey y do u think girls r always running to the bathroom at clubs ... its 2 check that their hair is still intact ... :tongue2 ..and ofcourse the fact that trance is stereotyped to drugs doesnt help the male cause either... just my 2 cents |

| If female DJS/producers were more prominent, I wouldn't mind it since girls are cute  However, I think female DJs would commercial trance. No skimpy clothings or flaunting big busty breast please, just make good music! I can imagine it now, a half-naked female DJ spinning while all the people pay NO attention to the music but all eyes are on her jiggling b00bs :whip: :eyespop: |

there's a female dj that spins topless can't rememebr her name tho.
i guess she has to show her to make up for her lack of talent! |

Portia Surreal :)
I think in Australia we don't have the same discrepancy that you guys seem to have .. I can think straightaway of several female trance DJs (Miss Mel, Amber Savage, Bexta), though most of them spin hard trance :nervous:
However, in Sydney our main local trance night is fairly evenly split .. most of the time it's probably 65% male / %35 female, but that seems better than most of what you guys get?
Prog events get a lot more girls than trance events though, and breaks/house events get even more again.... |

you cant really do that much to trance. |
I do agree with you there and I would also have to add to it that girls tend to be influence by the trends or what's in fashion at the moment, I would bet you any money that girls would like trance more if it was the mainstream or if it's trendy, also girls seems to like cheesey music more than anything else, why do you think Celin Dion and Brittany Spears or Nsync or every other cheesey poppy group or singer is so popular?, and also I think that intelligence has something to do with it too, I think it's a lot harder to understand a form of music that has no words to tell you what to do(trance) than a form of music that the guy tells how much he loves you and want to be with you (just buy my CD) or the girls tells you that she understands how feel about the guy who you love just dumped you on your ass but she knows this is the the best because you will find someone else who will love you even more and that you will be with him forever in the end, can trance do all that? NO! trance does speak to me and alot of you in many different ways but not like "teen pop", cheesey pop or R&B can. |
