How'd I know you'd bite Jan Noonan?? ;)
Its really unfair to compare DJs .. they each have their own style etc ...
but that being said, CJ Bolland will COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY own all the gurners @ Sunshine People in Perth :D BRING IT! |

i just got home from seein tiesto....and he was awesome :) :) i for one LOVE how he's playing these days...beats the e outta boring airy fairy uplifting track after track.......granted, i didn't like the innercity set much either - it def has a very different feel to most of his recent sets.....but i just put that down to the fact that innercity is kinda a more techno/hardish oriented event.....
hmmm, why isn't sumbody allowed to grow and change?? nobody has the same tastes and style in ANYTHING for their whole life....just cos he used to play a certain way, why should he have to stick to that forever?? pffffffffffft
tiesto owned me 2nite.....and i was very happily owned :) :) |

by the looks of this thread not everyone is as convinced...
to Escee - Innercity is hard to judge - Tiesto knew and announced he would play harder than usual for that event... without living the atmosphere of the event its difficult for anyone to appreciate that set.
Lemme know if u still feel he is lost after u see him in the flesh in Oz the next 2 weeks. |

Hmmmm...
I listened to the Innercity boardcast live. They didn't play all of Tiesto's site that time, but that parts they did play I found quite impressive, even for a ty 56kbps stream!
Also, the Innercity theme was based on Brazil this year, so playing techno a bit more than usual is to be expected I guess. But I know what you're saying escee, if I wanna hear good techno, I'd go see a *true* techno DJ.
It seems I am the only one who liked the Innercity set? Although, maybe I should hear the set in full to completely comment on it.
I agree on he's technical skills though, he's beatmatching isn't top notch, but I love the way he constrasts he's track selections though harmonic key differences - ALOT of TA's would completely disagree with me though, but I guess it's better suited to my taste.
He's productions on the other hand I definitely like. I hated Traffic was it was quite new early this year, but now I've grown to like it. The tracks that are really great are he's remix of Faithfulness, STREET SPIRIT, Never, Flesh 2002 and the love or hate Adagio.
True there was a time where I would say that the old school Tiesto was better - but I've come to realise that the Tiesto then and the Tiesto now can not compare, they're so different now. I like this particular darker style that he has :)
Also, agree with Beemer, people should be allowed to grow - Ferry with he's new electro-trance sound, Tiesto with he's dark uplifting tech-trance, and even Armin with he's uplifting prog-trance sound. No one stays the same forever - it's just a natual progression of tastes - whether if it's good or bad for them.

Escee: ignore the sticks that take this thread as a flame. Not only have you put thought to the thread before posting, you have expressed yourself thouroughly and without being a flaming whore. So i respect you for that.
Personally, i think tiesto is one of the braver dj's out there trying to establish himself as a "dj" not a " trance dj". Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt all of a matter of taste I guess. We all know u still love flight 643 though :p |

| As someone said, you really have to see Tiesto dj at a gig to appreciate how good he is. The man is a showman, and I for one like his new direction. I've haven't seen Tiesto since Global Gathering this year and the only set I've heard since is the innercity one. He wasn't all that impressive at Global Gathering, and the innercity set was average as well. The first 4 or so tracks were good, then after "Waterfall" it all starts going downhill! But to be voted the #1 dj, you figure he's gotta be doing something right!! And it's a bit unfair to want Tiesto to sound like he did 5 years ago, his choice of music has moved on from 5 years ago, as I'm sure yours has. Can't say I agree with you about Armin either, he's good but you really need to see him play at least a 3 hour set. Any less than that it's all uplifting, if he plays for more than 3 hours he tends to bang it out a bit towards the end. Bring on Armin at Subbies! |

This thread is so stupid... top DJs these days are meant to be performers and make the crowd enjoy themselfs. Those who stick to same genre like Armin, are afraid to envolve, and who plays same old tunes that we hear on A State of Trance eveerywhere else.
I don't need that, I want a dj to play for the crowd, otherwise I'll listen to his radio show.
You don't need to go see a good techno dj for techno or whatever your saying. Carl Cox is meant to be one of the most respected techno djs and when i saw him live few weeks ago he played house, techno, some dance bootlegs and trance. It was most likely the best night @ Family for the whole year as all the people have said that.
He gave us clubbers a performance we could enjoy and remember, he didn't play for the people listening on the radio.
Stop crying about Tiesto, if you don't like him then find another dj to listen to, there is about a million to choose from. |

Couldnt agree more... its also partly the fan(s) as well - who're expecting Magik Series sounding sets... as this is what they associate tiesto with.. hihi... times have changed and the set has developed a lot tighter mixes, and a lot darker musically... but hey - it fits with today. Tiesto is still the best and there are a few thousand people who'd agree on that one. |
