So, I think I’ve decided that there’s no sleep for me today.. this jet lag is ridiculous
Just enough time for a review..
For those of you who don’t feel like reading the whole thing, THE PARTY WAS ALL THE HYPE AND MORE
Music was perfect, from the “magister ludi”, as well as Sean Miller in opening. Sweet beats, so satisfying and wild. I didn’t know what to expect from Sean Miller, but he was perfectly balanced in opening, pumping the crowd and bringing a party to that cool atmosphere.
The master of the game.. wow.. he totally enjoyed the crowd and the party.. and when the DJ himself is satisfied with it, it shows and it reflects on the overall vibe. Set so smooth, so energetic, just stunning. Not a lot of familiar tracks, or at least any I could identify at the moment, not even if you put a gun to my head..
The crowd was not typical crowd that frequents these parties, definitely a welcoming change and a a pleasant surprise, I have to admit. And we had a perfect amount of people there, no pushing, stepping on toes, just enough to fill up a place comfortably and enough space to dance and mingle around.
The club itself is great too.. gorgeous sound system, great set-up (a sort of an aliasing podium, with lots of seating areas on the sides and in the back (back? or on top?), lots of room to dance, nicely air-conditioned!! No stuffy, dirty air and I love the fact that my hair doesn’t stink. And unisex bathrooms - not a problem (for me, at least).. but ffs, why not put a couple of sinks and some soap!.. ewww, tried not to shake anyone’s hands all night bahaha
Another annoyance was $5 for a WARM water (apparently they already ran out of cold water at the beginning of the night).
I also heard the rumour that there was a massage table somewhere a la Montreal afterhours, the going rate was $20 per 45-min massage (could put you to sleep in that time), but never saw it.
No big line-ups anywhere.
In my opinion, Toronto is not ready for afterhours – the crowd cleared by about 07-08ish. Shame. He's worth the full night.
I think I covered it all.
Great seeing all TAs that I saw and meeting the new ones, you know who you are.
An amazing additional benefit to the night was chit-chatting with Sander at the end of his set.. oh, about estates in coastal Montenegro, his neighbours in The Hague, déjà vus :p
PS I just freaked out when I put my watch on, which is still on Moscow time (+8h) and I tripped out that I was writing this review for that long hahaha I have to clear my head :D :p :clown: |

nice. i wanted to go, but i went to Distrikt with a few girls, and I saw my friend Paolo there, and he asked me if I was going to Boa. I told him NOT TO LEAVE without talking to me, because the girls were going home to Oakville, and weren't down for the party. Well, as you might have guessed, I couldn't get in touch with Paolo until he called me when I'm already back in Oakville with the girls, and called it a night.
. I should have rolled to Boa solo...I wonder if my boy Phil was working near the door. Does anyone know what cover charges were jumping to after 2?
Please list some tracks anyone Sander played when you guys get a chance :) |

What an amazing night.
What an amazing dj.
What an amazing club.
Lastnight was uning believable. Like Dea said, the club was very spacious, sound system is SPECTACULAR, and it seems (at this point) that the club has drawn appeal from some of the coolest party people in the Toronto area. Surprisingly non-sketchy crowd, very friendly staff, and good club layout. Sean Miller started out the night around 12:45 or so bumping out some very innovative progressive beats with all of the elements (tribal, house and trance). Tight mixing, excellent track selection really had the crowd going from the get go. Sander came on around 4 i believe and the party really started to get good at this point. Track selection was absolutely brilliant at times but i will admit there were a few moments in the night he must of been suffering from partying in MTL the night prior. He spun mostly i have never heard before but also spun a few classics and old songs (towards the end). Sander laced us with music that brought the atmosphere in the club to a level i havent experienced in a long time. He finished off around 9:15 with "Milkshake" (what?!?!!?) thats right.....milkshake (with him boogying on the dance floor with his girlfriend) - very funny . Sander was very interactive with the crowd and looked like he was having a blast slaying us with the arsenal of music he had in his possession. Got a chance to shake his hand and thank him for giving me a set of music i will remember for a lifetime. In closing i must say that its gonna be REAL hard for me to ever go to The Guvernment again after the clubbing experience i had at Boa. An extra $20 for room to dance and a good crowd is a good deal in my books. You dont realize how much more you can enjoy a party when you have room to do your thing on the dance floor.
Tunes he played (i know theres more i know)
Beastie Boys - Intergalactic (Matthew Dekay Remix)
Armand Van Helden - Funk Phenomenon
Chemical Brothers - It Began in Africa
Steve Porter - Definite Form
Kylie Minogue - Slow (RMX?!?!)
Janet Jackson - Feel It Boy (Deep Dish Remix)
Kelis - Milkshake (LOL)
Missy Elliott - Pass The Dutch |

werd. i can rarely dance the way i actually want to, cos the dancefloors everywhere are always too packed...except for last night (and howells in dec. - but that was because nobody was there)! it is so nice to have room to move and to not have sketchy people stagger into you all night. |

I had a great night last night, surviving till 8:30am sober, so that says something for the night.
Sean Miller is awesome and is definitely local talent to keep an eye on. He played a wicked opening set for Sander.
Sander was great at some parts and boring at others, the sound of the beat seemed to be the same snare, kick, hi-hat over and over again.
Crowd was great, nice people, lots of room.
The club is really a welcome sight in Toronto and hopefully will maintain what seemed to be a afterhours with a little touch of class.
Nice to see some of the TA's out last night. |
