I may be beating a dead horse here, but I dont see how trance is any more repetitive than prog in general. It may be more obvious with trance by nature of the sounds... |

prog is weird. i know sometimes it seems more repetative than trance sometimes. for some reason, i find the deeper and darker sounds more pleasing to my ears these days. i am not sure if the quality of uplifting is going down or if i dont like as much of it as i used to. some songs that people say are really good, i find them boring, others not. progressive is dope though, live is great =) |

As someone who's never really caused any problems on the boards, I'll give u the benefits of a long and non flamed reply ;)
The reason you didn't like it a couple of years ago is probably as you were happy enough with the music you had at the time. Personally Prog has never appealed to me, only the odd song, as i've grown up on music that needs a good tempo to it, hardcore, trancecore, techno, hard house etc
I think a lot of problems is that a few prog fans seem to think that they're better because of it, about 18 months ago i was told by a guy on here who i forget the name of, that i'd never be 'satisfied' if I didn't listen to progressive and i didn't have the capacity to listen to it anyway. The simple fact it didn't do it for me wasn't acceptable it seemed. I know all genres have their nazis who follow it to the death, I might be one of them, but I don't judge a song on who it's by but rather how good it is, just because a 'name' is on something I don't go ga-ga over it.
As for prog fans, well UWM Is a big one, yet me & rob get on like a house on fire, having a laugh and stuff, and there's more too of people who get on cross genre, but there does need to be more like that.
the wonderful thing in the world is that we're all individual, and as long as people don't try to force opinions onto others, then I Have no problems with them at all. Sure I might debate their choices, but that's beside the point.
2 years ago trance as uplifting was hot, and maybe not so much as 1996-2000 was but 2003 has definitely been good for tracks, if not DJs so much, I do miss Oakenfold playing the trance that wowed us all in the UK and if he was still playing it, he'd easily be number 1 above tiesto in the dj list & polls, as so many people miss the way he used to play.
Anyway hope u've enjoyed a non biased point from me for once ;) :) |

| I know what you are talking about. Like 4 years ago, i started listening to trance, i started with uplifting, and thought that it couldent get any better than that. After 2 years of thoose endless cheesy melodies i started to get tired, and eventually converted more and more to hard trance. After one more year, i started listening to progressiv trance. Nowdays, i cant stand uplifting / progressiv trance, as i tend to get bored after 5 minutes. this last year, i have started to listen to more "hard stuff" (like hardhouse, tech trance, techno, hardstyle) and i really like it :) |

| 90% of prog bores the ass off me, the only stuff i can handle is the trance crossover stuff like bedrock - emerald, holden & thompson - nothing (93 returning mix) etc etc... the rest of it is too slow and I cant dance too it. |

| I went through the same stuff. At first I was listening to trance, especially the uplifting stuff up until last year (Southern Sun, Ligaya, Seven Cities, etc.) and I started listening to prog only. Now, however, I listen to a little of both :) |

I think its happening to me! And you all know Im still one of the newest on the boards...
I say "I think" cuz I still don't know the differences between prog and uplifting...
But where I was listening to ATRC and Gouryella before, I find that I'm more likely to load my mp3 player up with Hydra, Mesh or Matti Laamanen.

i don't think it really has anything to do with prog, but rather with the melodic genre itself.
you get tired of it after a while because to be honest, it's almost all the same - beats, buildup, pause, some blimpy synths, breakdown, some more beats.
the reason people turn to prog is because it's the next most popular genre, as advertised by Markus Schulz (for which he is somewhat disliked in the 'prog world'). myself, i turned to breaks & sometimes classical, but mostly breaks. more dnb, ambient, ambient techno though too.
see, you can't just listen to the same genre all teh time and expect not to be tired of it. there are so many other genres out there, you just HAVE to diversify. |

haven't found the taste for psy/goa and funky house tho :(.... everything else i like....
