Why Can't New Clubs SURVIVE??
View this Thread in Original format

I went to Pulse Nightclub over the weekend and I was faced with the shock of my life after hearing so many good things about it. At about 2am there were maybe 10-15 people there at most. I got in free, even though I wasn't on the guestlist and it seemed like they were dying to let anyone in.
Same thing is true for Lotus which doesn't exist anymore as well as countless other clubs in Toronto. Why is it that people don't want to try out new clubs? I'm sure everyone knows about them since there are tons of flyers being handed out every weekend on the streets. Aside from the Guv and Reverb, I have nowhere to go in Toronto to listen to good music, (I'm not talking about the progressive BS they spin at System)-And Viva, I'm not even going to get that into that. I'm not about to wreck havoc on a dancefloor with no one around me, so where can I go when I'm not in the mood for the ginas of the Guv?

maybe the scene in TO just isn't as big as we'd all like to think ..

this city is saturated by clubs and bars, theres almost too much choice really. Besides "dance" as we know is still not extremly popular.. go to a hiphop/pop/euro night at some club and it'll be rammed.

I was actually talking about how crappy new clubs are turning out to be because no one goes to them for whatever reason. Mark Oliver spun at Lotus and no one went. Why? Even upstairs they had decent hip hop and Mark O's music is pretty mainstream.
Dance IS really popular in TO. The biggest club in the city plays it in their main room every Sat. night (The Guv).

Boa's a gay club right? That's probably why. They're catering to only one kind of clientele.

Last time i checked im like the complete opposite of gay (not that theres anything wrong with it). Boa is an after hours club, not a gay club like ive heard from others as well. The clientele is anyone who....
a.)likes wicked ass international/local talent
b.)wants to experience the BEST sound system in the city
c.)doesnt mind paying a lil extra for more space, and no booze.
d.)wants to party til noon!!

Sounds sad. But was the place OK at least? See, if I was from Toronto, I'd be clubbing almost every weekend, and I'd be there for sure to check the club out. But since it costs me around 20 bucks for transportation every single time to get to TO, and the fact that I am not rich ...

I was at Sound Emporium / Penthouse last month, and not only did the crown evaporourize by 3:30 AM (the DJing stopped at that moment), the bouncer treated me and my friend like , we had to pay twice the price (and bouncer was wrong), and the place wasnt so good either. Thank God the DJ was great and a few fellow friendly TAs were there to keep the vibe up. But as I said, I AM NEVER GOING TO SOUND EMPORIUM EVER EVER AGAIN, AND I SUGGEST NOONE TO GO THERE, ITS A TY PLACE ALL OVER.

I'm guessing you're a promoter? No one else would talk like that lol. But I'm still to check it out. I heard that its about 50/50 with gay and straight...And are you saying that after hours can't be gay? Look at Stereo in Montreal or It or Fly in Toronto.

Well I didn't think I was going to get into this, but it was pretty small from what I could see, but apparently they have another room upstairs. Which, I should add, was closed because there weren't enough people there. Isn't there laws against fraud like this? I just feel really sorry for people who paid good money to get inside.

Im not a promoter, just had a great experience there (like EVERYone else who was there for Sander K) and think its just what Toronto needs. It was no where close to 50/50. I bet maybe 1 out of 20 were gay (not that you can tell, im just guessing). I was actually surprised at the amount of hot WOMEN on this night. But it IS an afterhours club, so they must be lesbians right ? And did i say afterhours CANT be gay?!! Dont think so. I think there is a gay following anywhere you go clubbing in Toronto, and honestly doesnt bother me one bit as long as i dont get hit on.
