I was reading this thread and thinkin'..

Geez, it would be great if someone combed through all these threads and made a collection of KICKASS techniques and tips on producing.

Then I thought, "man that would be something if there was like a 3-4 day course you could sign up for where all they did was teach you the basics of making drum patterns, some music theory, and mastering techniques...

I know I'd sign up!! I might even pay for it!!:thepirate

cheers, i was going about it the wrong way i think!

Can you tell me how to do that in FL Studio 5 pls?

YEE.

Go through all your old funk records (well... if you're old enough, cool enough, or have a hip relative, otherwise you're out of luck) and get those crazy breaks. You can vocode some pretty sweet stuff from that.

And I just picked up an Iriver mp3 player (better than apple, believe it) so I can sample on the go. Most of the current models have line in, which can be changed to a mic in, and a built in mic for recording. It totally rocks and I'm getting some pretty sweet perc out of it. Just carry that around everywhere.

The built in mic is no Sennheiser of course, but I never leave my perc un-processed (who does?) so it's all good.

Get an iriver iFP series and just have at it, cars, rain, break some windows, sample some animals. Get a nice stereo mic if you go on sampling outings.

Really fun.

here's a cool trick if you have a HD synth that can send midi arp notes out...what you do is set up a sampler(hard or soft, doesn;t matter)with some hats in different key ranges...spread them accross evenly so you have room for note changes...then set up an arp sequence to yoru liking in your synth(or your synth might just have preset arp patterns) then start playing with a few notes at teh same time and you should get some cool stuff. You can aldo do this with just one sample, but its cooler with different ones. I haven't done this in a long time but I think I might just do it right now!

Something that really goes over well in clubs is inverting one of your kick channels. Add some real PHATNESS to your mix!!!!1

(LOL)

haha nice one.. let the phase be with you - master :D
djglacial
Yah, I did that for my song titled "Silence in the Depths"

It's all over Thailand right now!

LOL

the funny thing is that you "can't hear" it in stereo.. so it'll be more impressive when the dj is playing it the first time in the club (with mono speakers) ;)
djglacial
Unless it's one of those really swanky clubs that only plays the left channel. Then the song gets all boring.
