I don't care who wins this battle. As long as you are passionate about what you listen to and have someone to share it with ...whether it be one person or the rest of Toronto...you have reason to be happy! |
but it is indeed a battle now....
i see trance losing, esp. since HighRoller redefined what trance is....
somehow i feel many people dont know what trance is... but everyone knows it's what z103.5 plays now in between sean paul |

I voted for other because thats what I listen to most of the time. I'm a huge Prog head but I do enjoy trance.

Graham in my opinion this poll is misleading because there is NO option for both. I like both...trance and everything else equally. therefore I cannot choose one or the other... |

If you think it's misleading, then don't vote. It's easy.
All I'm asking is if you prefer TRANCE or other forms of EDM. That doesn't mean you ONLY listen to trance.
I put other because I listen to prog and techno more than trance. I still enjoy a good trance set, but I prefer prog and techno over it. |

u guys just wait & see... all u die hard trance heads will see what the majority will vote on... and it wont be trance. and if it is - i can always edit this post and say, see i knew trance would win!
but seriously. i'm not sayin i hate trance or anything, i have all of armin's ASOT's and listen to em every week. but then again, is armin really playing all trance in a state of trance, but thats another thread altogether |

Trance4Life. It was my first love and will always be. I love to party, I love to dance, and I love trance, techno, prog, breaks, jungle. But trance will always win especially if its HARD!
I also love the diversity of this site. |

I still consider myself a tranceaddict at heart even though these days most of the tracks i listen to are in the progressive house and breaks genre. Still, tell me PVD is on the decks and the memories of 98 come roaring back.
In my opinion trance stagnated a bit after the global success the genre recieved in 98-99, but now with the fusion of other elements of EDM being incorporated by smarter and innovation producers in their tracks the genre is still able to thrive and even more importantly, evolve and get better.
It's tough to choose a favorite because music is so mood dependant for me, and because i haven't found myself in a purely trancey mood for a while, i had to choose the latter option in the poll.
Still a TA though...and damn proud of it ;) |

WHen I say trance, I mean the generalization that non trance addicts have of trance.
ie. hands in the air omg it's Rank 1 - Breathing omg i cant believe tiesto played that!!!
That kind of trance. |
Graham, very few DJs play like that anymore.
Tranceaddict needs to be a board that defines trance based on how the genre evolves.
If the genre has involved to include elements of house, progressive, techno and breaks then you can't continue to pin the "hands in the air trance in my pants" idea to the genre.
I personally think the members of this board have an awesome mix of preferences - trance is generally the favorite, but more and more people are exploring other kinds of music now that they hear major DJs incorporating non-traditional trance into their sets. |

everything - and it's great.

I concur. Music's got that great ability to enhance whatever mood you're in, or completely flip it around. I've been drifting off to the chill side of music for the past little while now. So Coldplay, my chill Drum and Bass box set, Sarah McLachlan and such are all pumping through my headphones as of late.
There's nothing like a great trance set to get you going though. I still love Johan Gielen's Velfarre set from May 17th of last year. |

The past year has definately seen me lean towards the chill out ambient sounds for my post party fix as well. After a night out of house stepping it's so relaxing to come back and listen to something with minimal beats.
My favorites would be the type of sound that Nick Warren pushed in his GU:24. Evocative even in it's mellow moments, filled with Lush soundscapes that are easy to work to and even easier to drift away into...definately provides plenty of room for introspection after a night out ;)
Some good stuff to grab if you like the slow stuff...
Chilled out Euphoria - Mixed by Red Jerry
Chilled out Euphoria - Mixed by Solar Stone
Global Underground - electric calm v2
Ulrich Schnauss - Far away Trains Passing By
Talvin Singh - Back to Mine |
