The Southern States scare me

Now not everyone of the South is rapped up in this religous right fervor of G.W.Bush but the South really scares the hell out of me, it is amazing how many commentaries I have seen on the president's speech in which many individuals from places in Texas, Georgia, Alabama, etc,etc are utilizing this man's references to God as a hallmark of his strength as president. This man's decorum as a president is truly lacking in his understanding of what the United States should represent in our world, he has literally taken the greatest democracy in history and trashed it with his neo-con b.s. I cannot believe that so many in the South believe that what this guy is doing to our nation is somehow a beautiful thing. Let us just hope that Florida doesn't vote Republican this November because I truly am concerned about another 4 years of this president in office.
G.W. Bush managed to turn me from a supporter when he first took office, to loathing him today for his policies, every time he opens his mouth something even dumber than expectation comes out. A concerted effort is going to be needed to send one of the worst presidents packing back to Crawford, Texas to stay for good. Let us pray that Congresss slams the door shut on that idiotic Patriot Act. I weep for our nation when we are lead by this individual. What is even scarier is that he could start a war tomorrow and the South would still vote for him. He led us into a conflict that has failed to verify his administrations pathetic claims, now he speaks of democracy in the Middle East, only the most foolhardy can believe that this man can bring democracy to the Mid-East. I can only hope that last night was his last State of the Union speech, perhaps the most partisan, one sided, electioneering piece of crap produced by speechwriters. |

| I guess Abraham Lincoln is to blame for the current situation. Who needs the southern states anyway? The only thing they do is tip the support in favor of the religious/conservative/reactionist candidates while they don't do anything in terms of production or research. You should had let them have their own little country, and everybody would be happier now. :) |

| actually, southern states, or more specifically the 'sun-belt,' provide the cradle of the US's high-technology semiconductor and advanced R&D industries. These industries, and the service and defense-based economy they promote, are critical to sustaining an economic system that was once-based on manufacturing and productive industries (in the industrial northeast). |

I'm guessing that this would be a non-issue for you if the South still voted strongly Democrat as they historically have. As Bob Dole, and several other southern politicians like to state, the South didn't change - they didn't leave the Democrat party. The Democratic party left them. What do you expect when 80% of the population regularly attends religious services? Strong support for gay marriage? Strong support for removing the 10 Commandments from public buildings? |

Funny how they accuse Zell Miller of abandoning his party when his politics haven't changed. |

You can when they throw unfletching support behind Bush, eat up all of his religous statements as though he was the Pope in the middle of the Piazza del San Marco and believe that the man cannot do anything wrong. When I speak of the Southern states I am referring to voting in the national elections anything else I can care less, this is just in reference to an almost blind allegiance by many Southerners to Bush no matter what. As I so often like to highlight I originally was willing to give Bush a chance and supported him, however as time has progressed the man has demonstrated that he has one agenda for this nation and he and his fellow conservative buddies in the Cabinet will fulfill them at any cost. This is what turned me off, his disrespectul, condascending and bullish mindset that seems to be only swayed by the neo-cons surrounding him on a daily basis, including the cirlcle of RASPUTINS such as Rove, Wolfowitz, Chaney, Rumsfeld and of course Halliburton. |
