Trance or Techno (pg. 2)

But it's only about the history of techno :( There's almost nothing about earlier genres (such as house) and absolutely nothing about the sub-products of techno, such as trance.
If this guide talked about other genres, then it would be a lot more useful :)

It's crap not because of quality, but because of culture. I do enjoy Sytem F's Exhale, but I reckon it's "not trance". Listen to real trance (ie stuff produced before progressive, which is when trance decided to become house and ended up having epic trance as a second wave of eurodance) and you'll realise it's a completely different feel. it's not an opinion, it's an actual fact

He probably ignored some sub-genres because the list is endless (there are several thousands of micro-genres, and listing them all is almost impossible).
Yeah, some tunes he used are not the best examples one could get, but genres are like colours: there's no "line" dividing "what is what", you only know when it's obvious :) |

its simple really, you've never heard a techno song in your life before, but the mainstream media calls everything that seems electronic techno, its basically stereotyping
robert miles children 4 clubbers mix, is just dream trance (its his own genre of music) i dont like how kazaa people take the person that mixes the song and puts it as artist and puts the artist in ( )
sandstorm is just cheese, its made for people that follow the top20 and nothing else
voodoo and serano cheese as well |

wow that is a stupid coment, techno is so much better than trance its crazy, most techno heads vomit at trance as it is the most likely genre to find lifeless cookie cutter mold replications over and over again, music needs soul to fell it, and trance is often the house of the most souless music there is, epic trance is like 80% utter , Psy/goa have imense soul and originality but they are so far removed from the average trance sound its ridiculous, and as prog has split itself off these days more so than ever trance is left with little to fend for, Trance loses luster fast, it leaves many very disheartened as it will likely be the years you get into trance will be the best year you ever expirienced, there is quality left in the genre, but you have to dig for it, and with the layers of bull you have to go through sometimes to get it it can grow pretty tiring,
I know my trance vinyls get less rotation on the tables everyday, my shopping carts online are full of techno, and people dance to techno more than trance from all the things i've seen,to explain techno vs trance here is the best way i saw it put
------------------------------ is the lay out of a techno song, they have no massive synth builds which become a great bore after a while, techno relies heavily on filters, and originality, unique implementations of synths and overall focus on the rythm,
-------------^^^^^^^^-------^^^^^^^^^^^^^^----- this is the layout of the average trance song 2 builds the second more massive of the two, the builds are breathtaking at first, then they get old, then they get really old, then you wonder why the ass holes make such ty unoriginal music, then you drift to the other genres of trance, melodic, and likely will begin to find an interest in prog, by this time many people lose taste in trance all together, and when they feel like harder driving sound, techno plays a great filler, finally you may drift into psy/goa, some people find trance uplifting much longer than others, I guess they are lucky, as for me, driving bass lines, song layouts, insane melodies, and breathtaking drum loops give me chills now adays, epic trance makes me cringe, and epic trance comprises a good portion of the releases.
In my opinion with the exception for the few areas hat house originality in trance, Techno is a much better genre, with much more to offer. |

Pretty self explanatory if you listen to artists in those genres.
Everyone is different. If you are posting this on a trance forum, then your answer would be trance. it doesnt matter what is better as along as you like one or the other or both. |

Techno is all about the beats bass and percussions.
Trance is (usually) all about the melodies breakdowns and buildups.
Tech Trance takes the best of both worlds IMO. I *heart* tech trance. |
