wow that is a stupid coment, techno is so much better than trance its crazy, most techno heads vomit at trance as it is the most likely genre to find lifeless cookie cutter mold replications over and over again, music needs soul to fell it, and trance is often the house of the most souless music there is, epic trance is like 80% utter , Psy/goa have imense soul and originality but they are so far removed from the average trance sound its ridiculous, and as prog has split itself off these days more so than ever trance is left with little to fend for, Trance loses luster fast, it leaves many very disheartened as it will likely be the years you get into trance will be the best year you ever expirienced, there is quality left in the genre, but you have to dig for it, and with the layers of bull you have to go through sometimes to get it it can grow pretty tiring,

I know my trance vinyls get less rotation on the tables everyday, my shopping carts online are full of techno, and people dance to techno more than trance from all the things i've seen,to explain techno vs trance here is the best way i saw it put
------------------------------ is the lay out of a techno song, they have no massive synth builds which become a great bore after a while, techno relies heavily on filters, and originality, unique implementations of synths and overall focus on the rythm,
-------------^^^^^^^^-------^^^^^^^^^^^^^^----- this is the layout of the average trance song 2 builds the second more massive of the two, the builds are breathtaking at first, then they get old, then they get really old, then you wonder why the ass holes make such ty unoriginal music, then you drift to the other genres of trance, melodic, and likely will begin to find an interest in prog, by this time many people lose taste in trance all together, and when they feel like harder driving sound, techno plays a great filler, finally you may drift into psy/goa, some people find trance uplifting much longer than others, I guess they are lucky, as for me, driving bass lines, song layouts, insane melodies, and breathtaking drum loops give me chills now adays, epic trance makes me cringe, and epic trance comprises a good portion of the releases.

In my opinion with the exception for the few areas hat house originality in trance, Techno is a much better genre, with much more to offer.

I bet you have a huge too.

Trance is like a splash of water over your face.
Techno is like getting revenge on a freind for throwing water at you.

Trance is like slippers in a breeze.
Techno is like wiping a dog turd off your slippers before going inside.

Trance is like a sentence that makes no sense
Techno is like a scribble after that sentence that says 'what a load of sh!t'

blah! :eyespop:  :eyespop:

Both trance & techno kickass. ;)

Its a question of personal tastes, you can can think trance is better or on the other hand you can think techno is better.

And third option you can like both.

Agreed.. I really like trance, but depending on my mood I can also really wanna just listen to some techno or who knows what. Music supposed to touch the soul and if one day it's trance that does it for you but the next day it's techno then so be it.... all in all to answer the original question neither is better than the other imo.

So is this site called technoaddict? Didn't think so...

Nuff said! ;)

For example Tiesto's trance is the most beatiful music wchich I've ever heard and it is my opinion. I like techno too but when I listen to techno i can't hold long time and I switch to trance music with I can play all the day and all night ;)

Have her take some E. Most people I knew that didn't like electronic music got into it after they took some pills and listened to it high. E and A are the gateway drugs to electronic music.

on the note of ishkur, debates about his inherent elitism aside, i give him mad props to take the time to actually make a somewhat comprehensive guide to electronica and dance culture. I do find he makes alot of generalizations about genres, not to mention the examples are quite frequently not accurate at all. but its pretty obvious that no one can really create a completely accurate guide to electronic music since the lines between some subgenres are more like transition zones than definitive boundries.

the whole trance vs techno debate will never be won or lost, its music, so no one can say which type is better its all personal taste. i listen to some techno and do like some techno tracks alot but im definatly a trance junkie. (techno is amazing on speed... :P) i dont agree with the comments that people dance more to techno tahts horse . i drove home from wemf this year steering with my knees cause i was dancing up a storm on the 400 while listning to my therapist mix tape.

i think both genres have their highlights. trance definatly has the monopoly on melodic side of things, but techno i like for the percussion and the general drive to the music. i stil remember wearing out the concrete floor with my feet during dave the drummers set this eyar at wemf. but i dance equally as hard to trance as i do to techno. although i enjoy spinnign trance alot more. but in the end its all personal taste...... except for hiphop and gangsta rap which is all crap.... thats a prooven fact

It is good to go back to an earlier point in time (which may or may not be our roots) and be excited again:

I think Ishkur has a sense of humor, colonelcrisp (dig the nickname, it's so alliterative). He must. Miles away, the technosnobs moan and groan like tired old horses who can live strong healthy lives but won't for whatever reason -- maybe because deep inside, they're just feeling sorry for themselves and raining on someone else's parade gets them off. "Accuracy" here is relative. We're painting with aural colors, wide brushstrokes of sonic power. And even in the finer-defined areas, there are always those who will uproot the tree and plant it in a refreshing new environment. So like you said, yes... shading.

It's a techno music spectrum, like a rainbow. Obviously most people have a favorite color. What's yours? I like turquoise blue. I don't care too much for orange, but orange is a part of my world and a very preferred part of some people's world, and so I respect that and try to see the beauty in what others see. :)

i think that anyone who hears something and says "i won't listen to that because it's not my genre" is a freaking ass

a genre should only be used to help you find songs that you like, but you should never limit yourself based upon genre, if you go to a party, or a friends place, or whatever, and you hear a song form a completely diffirent genre, say a genre that you don't generaly like (metal, country, hip-hop, techno whatever your beef is) and you think it's kind of catchy you shouldn't be afraid to say "hey, i like this"

doesn't mean that you have to go out and start buying cd's form thet genre, or that you should change your style to try and fit in with that crowd... but maybe you shoudl give the genre a bit more of a try
nothing wrong with diversity... i personaly listen to electronica (i use that term because i don't even know how to classification half of the stuff i listen to), rock, metal, industrial, alternative and a bit of hip-hop

so i say base a song upon it's own merits, and only use genre's as a guide, not as a limitation

what this wise man said. listen to what you like, not what is popular. and don't bash genres because it's the popular thing to do.
