seriously, ive never had a weight problem but ive been starting to gain round my stomach, so been trying to cut back on my carbs and sugars. So now that ive been paying attention to what i eat ive discovered there is way too many carbs and sugars in my diet. I think like all things ppl go to extremes, so I'm just trying to moderate my diet so I can stick to it in the long run.

From what I have heard, the "South Beach Diet" is supposedly the most balanced diet there is out there.

But then again, diets DO NOT WORK. Just eat in variety and in the proportion of how much you exercise (burning calories). ;)

Ahh, the irony of reading this after I just had 3 bowls of pasta. :toothless

Seriously the Atkins diet does work, unlike other diets, but you have to follow it properly to make it work. That means NO carbs at ALL for the first few weeks, and minimal later on.

I am also with the people who say that a weight-loss diet is no excuse for a lack of exercise. Only go on a weight-loss diet if your metabolism is too low for regular exercise to do the trick.

well said. i lost a TON of weight a year and a half ago but that was because i was psychotic and burned about 700-800 calories at the gym per day. i must have been super woman or something because i def don't have the energy to do that anymore!

i have a VERY slow metabolism. and while i do work out (not nearly as much as i used to), the insane amount of carbs i used to eat counteracted with my exercise-- making me gain weight. im thinking that cutting carbs for sometime, and then gradually adding them back in (along with portion control) + exercise is the right way to go.

i'll keep ya guys posted! :p

That's funny. But just in case anybody here might take that post (or Subway's ads) seriously and get the idea that eating Subway's "Atkins wraps" actually fits into an Atkins diet, rest assured that it is merely a gimmick and won't help you lose any weight. :p

Erin: as long as you're not forgetting the exercise then you've got my vote.

There was a thing about low-carb diets on tv the other day. It has actually led to a few deaths. I would say it's ok if you want to lose quite a lot of weight quickly. But once you reach your desired weight just eat a well-balanced healthy diet with plenty of carbs, meats, fruits and veggies. As long as your diet is balanced and you burn off more calories than you take in each day then you shouldn't put on any more weight.

Well I see one huge problem with a no carbohydrate diet. Namely, ketosis. Basically you need carbohydrates to burn fat and if you don't have them your body can only partially burn fats and you'll feel like because your body will be using ketones for energy. You can buy kits from the store to test for ketones in your urine. Optimal diets are where you stay right out of the ketosis state as that is the safest way to lose weight. Also, losing more than 4-5 lbs a week means you are doing something that isn't healthy for yourself.

Personally I'd probably die if I went on a diet. It's ****ing hard enough for me to gain weight, i am like 95% lbm (lean body mass), 122 lbs @ 5'11" which isn't good. I've gained mass over the past few months though, I used to weigh 115 :o

I used to be a pudgy 185 at 5'11, but that was three years ago. Mega-metabolism and ridiculous summers of manual labor. :p Now it's just the six pack..er..beer gut? :conf:
