i went on it for like 2-3 months. i lost something like 15lbs, but i think i put on a couple lbs of muscle. i got off of it because..ehh i dunno i dont have that much dedication and quite frankly 3 months without the food you like sucks. ive gained like 5 lbs in a month of eating crap(although i cant really tell if its muscle or fat, i suppose i shouldnt be worried about 5lbs anyway). some stuff has stuck with me though, im used to atkins bread which is better for you, i drink diet soda if i even have it, i drink a crapload of water. im starting to excercise a little more; its amazing what pushups before bed can do for you.

i definetly lost the weight and with enough excercise and a quazi low carb diet i think you can keep it off. the diet just gives you that initial change in metabolism that is so hard for most people to get. you dont have to rid yourself of carbs for the rest of your life. i suggest anyone who wants to know more get the little book thing that explains the stages. it resolves some misconceptions.

Summary: Atkins worked for me, not on it anymore because i like pizza.

P.S. trancEyes. after a few weeks you may notice you stop losing weight, it happened to me and i was like "ugh" i think this is normal so dont be discouraged. and get the little book so you know what youre doing, theres alot of stuff you think you can eat but shouldnt. like peperonni and those kinds of meats. they are full of nitrates and are "teh bad for you".

best advice i can give is find something you like and stick with it. my staples were hamburgers, eggs, and salad...and flavored water.

WORD.. i did atkins off and on.. just for the induction period though when i wanted to lose some quick pounds. but this is true, the hardest part is just adjusting to having few carbs, once you get used to it, its really not hard at all. sometimes it sucks when your friends are eating some nachos in front of you, but for the most party if you have some will power, then you will survive. theres even low carb beer for ppl like me hahah.. tastes pretty much like water, but after not having real beer for so long, i got used to it. same way i got used to diet soda, but i never really drink soda anyways. basically drink lots of water, eat sensible, definetly exercise.. i think the biggest part of this diet is getting into the right mindset. but thats just me, it has worked for me but i think it won't work if you don't follow the rules. so get the book too and make sure u do it right.

mmm... carbs.. /goes to get some pasta salad

if you don't have the will power to stay away from pasta.. they make low carb pasta. one of the hardest things for me was to stop eating rice. but i think only asian ppl will have a problem w/ this.. that is if you eat lots of rice at home.

I will eat real food and nothing else, and at the same time suffer no immediate consequences. :D

i eat all sorts of crap and i dont seem to put on weight

its all abt not eating square meals everyday, just eat whenever u feel like it, he said something abt appetite, the more u eat, the bigger ur appetite gets or some shiznit like that.

The diet is actually dangerous cos you shouldn't suddenly starve your body of somethinng it's used to getting, the best one is to just half portions & snack on fruit if you get peckish, a lot of people are using this one in the uk atm, but I'm yet to see proof of long term (in 5-10 year) effects it may have had on body organs & functions so I really wouldn't touch it personally

Congrats Erin! :)

I used to be massively overweight last year, weighing almost 200lbs at 5'7" :eyes:
I was so unhappy with myself that i decided to do something about it. I cut out almost all the sugar out of my diet especially sodas (those things are evil!!) no more fast food, no pizzas, no burgers, took out the majority of the carbs in my diet too and ate only once a day (yeah i know that's stupid but dammit it worked!).
Now it's a year later and i've gone down 5 sizes :D I now weigh 143lbs. Still a little too much IMO but it's okay, excercise will kill that too :p
My diet it a lot more balanced than it was when i first decided to lose weight of course but i still watch what i eat, and i make sure i excercise enough each day to keep the weight off. I, like you, also have really really slow metabolism, so at first i tried diet pills which did nothing but **** me over :(
Either ways, keep eating healthy and excercise!! I'm rootin' for ya :p
Good luck! :)

okay so by alkalize you mean... eat more veggies?
because i have the thing you mentioned, i need a minimum of 9 hours sleep otherwise i feel totally dead, i used to be able to sleep only a few hours and be fine but since i lost weight its almost impossible for me to stay up late :(

put it this way..ur internal system is an environment,...thin abt new york city when it has a garbage strike ...the streets fill up with garbage and then come rats...same thing with ur blood stream that environment fills up with crap making an environment that is habitable for things like germs and other organsims...these things then not only feed off ur red blood cells and white blood cells..they also eat at your energy reserves.... the way ur environment goes all messed up is an overabundance of acid...u want it a balanced system? u have to alkalize to balance it off...6.36 i think is the number ur ph should be at...

and that is as general as i can put it..i researched on this....if u want i say u go to a lab where they have powerful microscopes and take a look at ur blood environment...ull notice some messed up unnatrual things going on....oh ya this iss also the cause of high cholestral...because ur body is sending this aciedic blood thru artery's and to protect the walls of the artery's ur body makes cholestral to kinda lub up the walls so they dont get damaged...then depending how acidic u are ur body keeps on producing more and more cholestral till it finally clogs ur artery's and bam ur dead ;)
