i think in today's society..we take sex as a normal think like any other activity..people dont consider it anything special and the reason why so many people are against religion is its stand on sex...i dont think u r goin to hell if u have sex with true emotion and meaning to it...cause people can just get married and then divorce in a week...so waiting till marriage shouldnt be a must..i think it is a sin if u just go around bangin left n right hehe..but sins r forgiven if u truly regret it....it is funny how sex is viewed in this world..me myself a catholic..think u should wait for the moment when it truly will mean alot to you..doesnt have to be marriage but just when it is for the right time n reason

Quite frankly, I think your manager is an idiot. There really is no evidence for the bible's validity that stands up to scrutiny, people are free to believe whatever they want, but before I accept that "pre marital sex is wrong", I wouldn't mind seeing some evidence. The same goes for "Because you don't believe there's a big white man in the sky looking over us, you're going to be condemned to eternal damnation. It doesn't matter if you were a good person on earth, all that matters is god's over inflated ego and his complete lack of ethical standards".

atheist?

Religion is based on faith, not evidence.

Atheist/Secular Humanist with agnostic leanings - currently investigating Buddhism. :p

I have absolutely no problem with people following religion (Even though I don't take a positive view of religious dogma), but I do take exception when people go around claiming what they follow is the truth/informing that me that I'm going to burn in hell for all eternity, without providing any evidence whatsoever. When someone claims that they base theist beliefs on 'faith', I generally interpret that as meaning that they have absolutely no proof of their claims, and are adopting the classic 'I'm right because I say so/I believe that, ok?' position. Hell, I could claim that I have faith in a flying pink elephant who goes around murdering innocent apes at night, and that because I have faith, he must exist. If an omnipotent god existed, and wants us to believe in him, then quite frankly I think he would have provided us with evidence, don't you? After all, the Christian god is acknowledged to be omnipotent, is he not?

so you just dislike it when people push their faith off on you.

I never really understood why those with such strong faith felt the need to force their beliefs on others. Its all good you like something, but let me make up my own mind.

I suppose id better clarify my position here. I believe in freedom of religion - that is, people should be able to practice whatever religion (That includes having no religion whatsoever) they like without discrimination based upon that belief, but that doesn't preclude me from holding the belief that Christianity/Islam/Judaism/Hinduism are essentially wrong. I'm perfectly happy to express that belief and debate people on the topic, but I will never discriminate against people for holding a certain religious belief (I suppose that if this particular belief was seriously hurting/harming other people then my position might change, I really haven't thought about it). I'm also rather militant when it comes to separation of church and state, which accounts for me not liking when other people try and push their belief on me and other people. An example of this would be when someone tells me that gays are sick/perverted because the bible says so. People saying that generally gets me up and firing, so to speak. :thepirate

Hmm, ranting is cool! :p

However the Christian ethic (Islam equaly if not more) has for centuries foisted a distorted sexual image upon man. It states: ‘Anything pleasurable is sinful’.

thats utter bollock, christianity doesn't see sex as an act as sinful, it sees aldultery as sinful. The idea is simply that we, as humans, are intended to become one with another (as in the bonds of marriage), then have as much sex as you like, just as long as it is with the person you love and promised to commit to

One thing i would also like to add:

Christianity is not a religion in the normal sense. If you look at all other religions they have set rules, pray at certain times of the day, confession, clothing, diet rules etc. Religion is a set of rules to live by in the hope you will please god. Christianity is the beleif at we, imperfect beings as we are with no chance of coming close to pleasing a being that in itself is perfect, accept the truth that Jesus Christ, as a perfect being also, took our punishment onto himself so that we might be saved. This means that Christianity is not a set of rules but the knowledge that whatever we do, as long as when wee do wrong we realise and repent, we are safe in the hope of heaven. To summarize it very cheesily other religions are DO religion, as set of rules of things you must do, Christianity realises that the things that secure our immortality have already been DONE.

It is also worth noting that in Christianity sexual sin is not its own category, it goes along with things like theft, greed, selfishness etc. It is never to late to ask for repentance.

no see you can't keep doing it like stealing then asking forgiveness because God knows our hearts and if we mean it or not. Actually this has turned into a decent discussion. To answer arctic's question, God allows you to make up your mind, hence the free will. I personally believe that if God completely revealed himself to people, then 99.99% of people would believe it. God does reveal himself to those who truly ask but not in the way that people think. See he does not play by anyone's rules, he created them, so he works in his own time and God has forever. Scary thought for most Christians.
