Spirit of Change, November-December 1998
Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 is an involving well-research and in-depth perspective on the evolution of the Mesoamerican calendar. According to the Mayan peoples, we are now living in "end time." Decoding the mythological explanation of their long-known "astronomical facts," Jenkins explains how the Galactic center at the central bulge of the Milky Way was understood by the ancients as the pregnant point in the heavens that gave birth to the world. This point coincides with what is just now being discovered by today's scientists to be a black hole. An impending alignment of the sun at that very point, according to Mayan calculations, culminates at the winter solstice, December 21, 2012.
The Mayan interpretation of this as an "end point' of our time is said to signify "a World Age shift" indicating a cataclysmic transformation seen as a "prelude for global renewal."
The ever-spiritual perspectives of the Toltecs and Mayans on this upcoming cosmic alignment reflect a belief in "the cyclic renewal of the earth and the spiritual unfoldment of humanity." A fascinating and engaging read, Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 offers us a solidly researched invitation to "recognize our place in the great chain of creation."

Goddamit. I wish someone else didn't know about this.
The Mayans also predicted a 'Great bearded pale man to come from across the seas. Such a man would change their lives forever." Interpreted as a good omen, the Mayans welcomed the Spanish into their society and were eventually wiped from the face of the earth. |

| This was assuming that the mayan rule still remained. We all know that the spanish gold savages wiped them out. |

I'm very skeptical that the ancient Mayans, who have left us absolutely zero archeological evidence of any technology greater than spears and stonework, could have obtained such a detailed and accurate analysis of our galaxy and its workings that has, apparantly, been able to elude us despite our technology and understanding of physics and astronomy that is far far far far more advanced than theirs.
I don't understand why the Winter Solstice is so important in all of this, either. I'm very aware that many religions celebrate solstices in various ways. It celebrates the beginning of longer days and coincides with this whole "rebirth" that this is apparantly all about (not only in mayan mythology, but in many others as well). But in the grand cosmological scheme of things, the solstice here on earth is just another average moment throughout the universe. Hell, its summer solstice in the other hemisphere at the same time. If the Mayans were in the southern hemisphere they'd probably be predicting June 22 instead of December 21. Sounds to me like just another myth and their story.
Plus that website doesn't look too reliable. Just like any average, crazy conspiracy/mythology site. When I see some hard evidence for this astronomy from a credible source then I'll begin to beleive it. |

They weren't the first civilization to have a good calendar
Something else I was thinking of... these nuts are claiming we're gonna get sucked into the black hole at the center of the galaxy right? In 9 years? Our solar system is about 30,000 lightyears from the ceneter of the galaxy. I don't understand how they expect our solar system, moving at a mere 250 kilometers per second, to align with the center of the galaxy in 9 years. |

| Just gonna clear something up real quick A black hole exerts no more gravitational pull then a star of similar mass. I hate when people think of black holes as vacum cleaners. |
