Yes this is one of the reasons I dont like DJ Sammy as much compared to Paul van Dyk. All of Sammy's commercial hits have just been rehashes of 80s hits which were fairly uplifting in the first place. I wont say that PvD has never released commercialised music, but he certanly hasn't based his popular career from dishing out average remakes of old forgotten pop songs.
For a little more useless info:
Don Henley - Boys of Summer
Date Song Hit Charts: 11/10/1984
Peak Position On Charts: 5
Weeks On Charts: 22
Bryan Adams - Heaven
Date Song Hit Charts: 4/20/1985
Peak Position On Charts: 1
Weeks On Charts: 19
Listening to the originals is recommended, they're quite good in a 80s pop way :) I hope the next song he covers is by Kim Wilde! |

| Paul van Dyk is hardly in a position to diss DJ Sammy, or anyone else for that matter - he's been repeatedly churning out the same tune slightly re-worked for the last couple of years! |

Nope, instead he takes other peoples trance tunes, adds his own beat to it and takes the credit for it. |

I think MaRt was trying to say that all his tunes sound the same nowadays.
And what's wrong with playing trance remixes of dance tunes ? (I repeat) Airscape and Pulser both did great.
And I can't understand how people can compare PvD and DJ Sammy.
To compare two artists in if they are cheese or not, then they firstly have to be in the same genre imo.
I don't see that here... |

Paul never takes any credit for his reworks, he only gets credit from other people who think his edits improve the tunes considerably. I guess you're on about Crush, dunno the deal behind that one. And I still don't get how this makes him as bad as DJ Sammy... |

Would you care to give examples/proof? |

90% of all Paul's reworks are done for his livesets and not releases. For example, almost 3 years are over and we still have no vinyl with the great Sound Design - Happiness (Paul van Dyk's Happy Remix), just because the labels cannot manage the copyright things... |

The fact is that he does the exact same thing as Dj Sammy does - rehashes other peoples tunes to use as his.
I'm not commenting whether it's right or wrong but some people here have HUGE double standards about this. |

I wasn't talking about the reworks he does for his sets. |

Just for the record... i've been reading in some signatures "DJ Sammy = #1 Techno dj" - is that serious or a joke?
Because if it is serious, then those guys don't have a clue of what techno is... |
