Why does Sydney suck so much for trance! (pg. 15)

This is a bit off-topic, but where can you go in Sydney to hear some good uplifting trance?
Flame me if you want, i admit i am a noob, but I had my first 'proper' clubbing experience on Friday night, not some sucky RnB club (and it was awesome), and I am dying to go out more....
I just want some people to let me know where to go, that's all.

I don't mind going out on a 'gay' night, however the few times I have done this it has turned out very bad and I have felt VERY uncomfortable. I think it would be fine if it was 1/2 and 1/2.
I am interested in meeting about this issue, I have some ideas and am interested in hearing more discussions on this! |

i wonder whether some people in this thread are just wanting BIG trance parties. If trance isn't well supported, would pay for those who are into it to run small local nights. It might gradually build up a scene, but even if not, it would at least allow you to hear the music you love.
I would rather enjoy playing to 50 people who are into it regularly (say once a month). Numbers don't matter. If they do, I have to ask whether it's the music you're into or more 'the scene'. Nothing wrong with that, just a question, that's all.
I've learned from hard experience to start small and grow slowly.
All genres go up and down, maybe Sydney just doesn't get it at the moment. Trance (of all varieties) is still probably the single most popular dance music genre in the world, although possible hard house is overtaking it :/
my 2c as a little kiwi trance DJ, running a small occasional trance night here. (Fluid, 200 people a night, which is small by Sydney standards, but at least they're all up-for-it trance bunnies).

what ever happend to trance on the MOS Australian releases, a lot of people buy these cds who arnt your normal club type & they would buy a MOS cd but not say a ferry, armin etc cd
in the past dyanmix would mix up a good trance cd on the anual and on club nation but now mark has changed his style both disks are house.... |

Yeah dynamix had some wicked cd's back in the day... peaktime vol 1 and 2

Well Mark Dynamix basically spins prog house these days....
I think with the gay parties its not so much about the music as it is about the brand. People know the Ruby brand in the same way as say Transmission or Godskitchen, so their nights will always be reasonably packed because people go "oh, it's a ____ party, it'll be good."
And I think Arq is one of the handful of clubs in Sydney that will pull a residual crowd, ie the people who say "lets go to ____" regardless of what's actually on that night. Home, Gas, Chinese Laundry, maybe Tank and Arq are the few places that have this effect.... |

Helix, the clubs have to pay bills & make money, so whilst we may think lets get 50 or 100 people, thats usually not enough to keep the venue happy...
Icebox is probably a good size & i cant see why Josh's parties cant be sussessful?
When myself & strangis played at Halcyon, the numbers really werent that far off being really good. Why not close the Bohem lounge & get everyone in on the same floor???
I think there is some strength in the Sydney scene & plenty of people seem to know each other, you cant be that far off getting something really good happening. |
