I saw it in theaters and I must say that this is the most thought provoking documentary I've ever seen. A great deal of the things that they discuss are true. Basically, the movie started off by demonstrating that if a corporation is to be looked at as an "individual", then this individual could only be characterized as a psychopath. The movie starts off by identifying the characteristics of psychopathic behavior and then showing how a corporation fulfills all the characteristics of this behavior. Then the documentary goes into examples of this behavior in our everyday society and shows how even governments are powerless to control large corporations due to internationalization.

This movie opens your eyes and shows you how greed is the dominant force in capitalism, and the only possible solution is for us all to unite and drive large corporations out before it becomes too late. Realistically, this is true. If you consider a simple manufacturing process and how it effects the environment you’ll realize that the natural balance of nature is being distorted for profit. This is a really sad thing because if you look at earth 40 years from now, you’ll be disappointed at how disgusting and polluted earth will become. There are also human side effects such as mutations in newborns, diseases (due to un-sanitized handling of manufacturing technology {meat, milk, chicken, drugs, etc} and the luck of responsibility by corporate manufacturers), etc.

Was it an eye opening film? Yes.
Was it biased? Of course.

The only part of the film that truly bothered me (because it was something I'd never heard of) was that IBM was such an integral part of the holocaust. The proof shown in the film was undeniable. Working for a company that used to be owned by IBM, and now having IBM as a customer, I was disturbed.

I heard IBM paid some huge out of court settlement in 1999 related to its involvement in the Holocaust.

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? I never saw the documentary, and probably never will, but this sounds interesting.

The Nazis used an IBM computer to store the data of all of their prisoners. It was used as a classification system for the prisoners. It would code their reason for being in camp, and their fate. It was pretty detailed. But what could IBM do, they just tried to get some cash. BTW: they collected it after the war.
:/

I don't think it was a computer, but rather, IBM designed a punch card system to organize the people in the camps...the codes on these cards were pretty graphic.

The operation of the concentration camps was so huge, there HAD to be a relatively sophisticated means of keeping track of everyone. IBM provided it.

The man interviewed in the documentary was the writer of the book "IBM AND THE HOLOCAUST." If you search that title on the chapters website, you'll find a description of the book. I'm going to read it when I am done my courses this semester.

The proof is so obvious though - right down to the pictures of IBM CEO having lunch with Hitler.

Yeah, that makes sense. It wasn't a computer since computers didn't really exist.

But Dr.Z do you think it would have been right for IBM to provide any sort of service to the Holocaust. "Trying to get some cash" and killing 6 million people are two different extremes.
