i agree with neophono here, even though there is huge differences between different european countries, you can still say that there is a european culture as much as you can say that there is an american culture. |

Yes, comparing America to Europe is hard. It would be like comparing Britain to the combination of USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina etc etc... |

First off, western Europe shares 2000+ years of common history. They also (for the most part) share a common currency, work together to form economic and social policies (EU) and are even considering sharing a common army. Although I can find similarities with Canada and the US, I don't see that with the other countries you mentioned. I would say if any country in Europe should be held seperatly it would be Britian as they seem to be more independent of the other European countries and seem to act more like America would in many cirumstances. |

In Europe, I think there are similarities between certain regions. Italy, Spain and France have a lot in common I have found, same with the Scandanavian countries (plus maybe Germany). The British and the Irish are identical cultural wise. Still, your talking about 15 (thats just the EU) countries which are all different in one way or another... |

yeah, very true, but you miss one thing, take for exampel an southern US state and compare it to a nothern, you will find big diffferneces there too! yet you would never doubt to talk about one american culture! |
