What do you think about Europeans? (pg. 9)

I wish I was European. Well it depends where I guess.
Cal
Well, having lived in both North America and Europe I can say that Europeans are without a doubt more aware of things, wiser, not as backwards as Americans.

And its pretty obvious why. Europe is a big place with lots of countries where people are free to easily travel, experience new things, exchange ideas (now more than ever thanks to the creation of the EU). Its not as consumerist as the US, where people worry more about making money and buying expensive cars and clothes than things that are more important.

Now compare this to the US, a country in the middle of nowhere, with oceans on two sides, a dirt-poor Mexico noone takes seriousely to the south, and the Canada (US mini-me) to the north. Add to that a super centralized concervative and censored media and government and its no wonder the US is stagnating.

Well, since we're all enjoying generalizations I'll tackle the problem I have with Europe. It's still stuck in the enlightenement.

What I'm saying is that Europe has become a continent of little action and a lot of talk. Iraq disobeys UN policies, let's talk about it. Bosnia is a mess, let's talk about it. We are filled with racial and ethnic strife, let's talk about it. Isreal/Palestine is a disaster, let's talk about it. Germany is invading, let's talk about it. There's still this perverse vision that all solutions can be solved through negotiation and the perserverance of the "good" of humanity.

I think on the other hand Americans are the eternal "realists," and that's where many of the problems between the US and Europe come from. Japan bombs Pearl Harbor, we attack. Terrorists fly planes into our buildings, we attack. Somebody decides to go against the UN or our ideals of civility, we attack. I'm not saying that we won't try diplomacy first, but we are in no way afraid to take *real* action when lines of communication become pointless.

As far as France goes, I think they prove this difference of the two continents to the maximum, although they have the added bonuses of hypocracy and arrogance. They tell us not to invade Iraq, with its obvious humanitarian and political issues while they go into Africa, alone, and now are saying we should go into Haiti, both with no magical UN resolutions they were looking for in Iraq.

I could go on about France, but something tells me I've already written enough cannon fodder for a couple pages.

;)

LONG LIVE THE AMERICAN PROPAGANDA MACHINE AND THE (are you happy now)GENERAL IGNORANCE OF THE US POPULATION

People, as a former European and now a Canadian I must say that I've seen it all and have made my choice. One thing is for sure, americans are passionate people and don't easily give up their ideas, especially when their brains have been continuosly washed out for the last 50 years. Therefore I must advise you that it is useless, trying to convince the pro-american users of this forum that Europe is better then their home country. As they say power corrupts and for the last decade we've seen a vivid justification of it. One thing is for sure, I've made up my mind about my neighbours to the South. Whenever I see any of them I give them the finger and tell them that they are not wellcome in my country. I advise you to do the same and sooner or later they will understand that things can not be their way or the high way. More we don't need them to like us, I actually don't want to see them ruining Europe with their presence there, let them stay in their "paradise"!
No hard feelings, cheers!!!

My, what a well thought out response. Who is this General Ignorance that you speak of though? Is he a five star general? Is he a member of the joint chiefs of staff? I've never heard of him before, but he must be pretty popular for a Canadian to know of him. The sentence kind of makes sense if you add a definitive article the before the word general, but I assume you would not make such a grammatical error when criticizing others for ignorance. Well, I'll keep my ears perked for news about this new General ... he must be in Iraq.

Edit: Well it's better now that you've clarified your stance. A personal attack without justification is fair game for a free for all. Cheers :)

Though I still don't like the generalizations ... but I suppose that's what this thread is all about.

Funny how the Euros (and Itso) here proclaim to be so open minded but yet fall back on ridiculous, closed minded generalities.

How Interesting! :disbelief

But I suppose it can work both ways :)

Uhm, why? Do I have a speech impediment? Please clarify why my response gave you the need to use 18 smileys in yours. I think that's a little excessive.

Euro ho.

I don't like Europeans. In fact, I'm not even going to call them that anymore, I'm going to call them Europeons. The problem with Europeons is not so much that they're incredibly stupid, or that they smell like one-week-old carrion, or that they're all baby-killing satanists - even though those things are certainly true. Rather, the problem with Europeons is that they don't realize how completely and totally irrelevant they are to everything. I mean, when was the last time you heard about anything important happening in Europe? Exactly - never! It's a well known fact throughout the civilized world that the cows which are slaughtered to provide beef for the booming American fast food industry hold far more international political sway than even the most powerful Europeon could ever dream to obtain. Europeon nations need to stop pretending like the rest of the world ought to be listening to their incoherent babble, and simply take their rightful place among the rest of the developing nations of the world.
