i mean please understand where i am coming from, the way i see it and to be completely honest, i think paul seriously s on ny when he comes to play ever since twilo closed...his only exceptions are soundfactory, arc, and central park. THAT IS IT! every other gig has been average. do you think you can have a room moving to Jonsey - Independance @ roxy? thats strictly a twilo song lols thats when u know paul is playing for you...

im sorry for being so skeptical its just that after learning what wmc is about, attending parties outside of nyc, i've grown to learn that nyc doesnt receive the true heart of all DJs, that they come here and play to what they believe NYC would like. i dunno nyc has become to mainstream oriented so much so that djs alter their trackselection to fit what they think NYC would like! another .02 of me

i understand totally.
but what i also take into consideration that he doesn't on nyc is the fact that he comes back often, and plays encores for 45+min. I've been to quite a few # of events that pvd has spun @, and i've never seen him play encores longer than the ones in nyc. He usually brushes his hands and waves after a 20min encore. He keeps going in nyc, which makes me kind of think that he loves playing for ny cuz of the twilo past.
Also, i personally am pretty annoyed at the people who just go to in ID tracks.. thats so lame. Go and enjoy the music, if he was a no-name dj and he played those tracks, people would bug out.. so why not do it over him. my .02 :D

dude i have a comment as for pvd ting on NY. i also agree that the paul van dyk in twilo was on another level, but that was because of a combination of things, and the fact that to this day, no DJ can create the same atmosphere in New York that they might have done regularly at twilo. that is because of how good twilo was as a club from its lights to its sound to its massive dance floor to its C02 tank. not to mention, some of the best crowds in new york that were twilo patrons.

having said that, i dont think it is fair to say paul s on his new york gigs. ive seen him at random spots around the US such as in ohio and dc or boston where his gigs are short and "trademarked", his new york sets offer so much more. the diversity, the fact that he plays unusual songs... songs he has put aside for years, songs he never plays at normal club nights, unreleased tracks, tracks like the spell that ive never heard anywhere else.... i think this is something special, the fact that he keeps his 6 hour arrangement in new york alone is really something special. the fact is, yeah miami is hot, especially during wmc... but if you want to talk about north america, new york is his MOST DEDICATED event and is still on a level above other places. that is my personal feeling and why i always come to new york for his gigs no matter where i am.
arturob
heh. actually i heard him mix 2 tracks which reminds me of solid sleep intro, but this was THATS LIFE RMX :P they have the same closed hat! :D

his marco v i feel you remix has a similar beginning to club attack too!

were they actual gatecrasher kids from the UK or not?

I saw a small one go up from the crowd at the middle of his set and a big one at the end.

There are no crasher kids anymore. Cyber is dead. :(

HMMMMMMM....i really don`t know what to say about pauls performance, it was tooo random for me, there was no flow at all, but i had sooo much fun meeting everyone(arty, bri, dani, indy, jon, lee, vladi, jay aka THE BREAK lol, alex, etc. pp.) and in the end he caught me with his encores like FACE 2 FACE...i die for this tune. it was also great hearing deeks remix once again! :)
andreas and i missed this "bass in your face" feeling the whole night. we would give him a B- .

Got back to Germany this morning and went straight to work, urgh. Now home, no time yet to read this entire thread, so here are just my 2 cents:

I agree with ShellShock, I missed the flow in the set. Same problem as 2 weeks ago at Casino in Berlin. Therefore, both sets didn't really catch me. That's too bad as he did change them dramatically from, say, the latter half of 2003, as rubyriva pointed out. That in itself is a big positive, but I kinda got the feeling that he hasn't really figured out the new tracks in his virtual record case to build as smooth a set as we are used to.

Of course Face to Face, one of my all time faves, rocked and so did For an Angel as the closing track. THOSE tracks cannot be overplayed, if you know what I mean.

As for the sound, it sucked, relatively speaking. The Phazon was clearly not up to its own standards and fell way behind it stellar performance last Novemer. I noticed that immediately as I walked in, that's how bad it was. But then again, it totally didn't compare to horrendous system at Avalon the next night at Ferry's show, one of the worst I've ever had my ears hurt.

And last but not least, Edgar V's opening set: sucked ass, the worst PvD@Roxy opening ever, even worse than the horrible Luis Diaz opening a couple of gigs ago. WTF was he thinking?

Great running into a lot of people, sorry I wasn't able to hang out with you, I was with my own crowd of 20+ people.

See ya all in Miami :D

P.S.
Didn't see a gatecrasher flag, only 2 different Berlin flags, small and large. Do you maybe mean those?

yeah i'm posting a bit late but i had an AMAZING time. paul played such a good set, probably better than the last two he played at roxy. i enjoyed myself so much, i never wanted to leave the dance floor. the way they had the booth set up was really cool too, you were able to get so close. omgihadsomuchfun. it was great seeing everyone too. WOOOOO
