Alright, who's coming to Thailand? (pg. 4)

I dont think he should reconsider going, as it is a gorgeous country(in places) but he should know what goes on and what to expect when hes there.
I have a friend whos gone 3 years running for a month of the summer for about something rediculously cheap (I think when we compared my week @ WMC for 2600, he could go for 3 months on that money) But hes not the type that goes for the girls (however, he did meet one british girl) He went and drank sand pails of Rum and cola, slept on the beaches, and all that stuff.

and for his info, I think Canada is trying to pass a law to prosecute canadian sex offenders who go abroad to purchase sex when they return to Canada. You might wanna rethink that massage parlour.

I'm not reconsidering going, i'm reconsidering visiting the massage place. I'm still going to either Thai or Phils because it's damn beautiful there!

j_spot, do me a favor and ask your friend how he manages to go there for so little money. Three months for 2600 is stunning if that's including tickets.

better not at the FullMoon - lots of undercover police around there. Typical fee for staying out of prison (when caught with a Joint for example) is around 25.000 - 50.000 Baht (thatīs 1000 Euro / 1.250 US$)... no gurantee, though. If you get out, itīs a 10-years-blacklist for re-entry in the country - and Thailand is so beautiful, that this is really not worth it.

Drugs are prohibited in Thailand and since Dec 2002 thatīs very much enforced, even with piss tests etc.

Clubs close down at 2am, with the new law effective 13.03.04 some already at 12, only clubs in specifically assigned zones may open ītil 2am (Phuket may get a late night zone until 4pm). Thatīs gonna really have an impact on Bangkok nightlife, btw.

But besides that - BKK and Thailand are really nice places, Iīm already looking forward to next yearīs trip (and Iīve just come back two days ago, being my forth trip to Thailand)

Cheers

... and when someone ask you if you wanna try drugs (Marihuana, Ecstasy... just say no. Because in Thailand, just when you show your interest, they can put you in the prison. Even when you don't buy something!!

And there are a few clubs which close the doors (official) on 2.00 am. But the ppl who are on E they can stay in the club and have party with the closed doors. And take care in these clubs... about 30 % are ladymen!

You know phuket is not the only place to visit there.

To address some of the concerns expressed above... first things first. I noticed an interesting pattern emerging which consists of several people assuming things and then criticizing me based on their own assumptions. Example of this being Skipper saying i'm going to Thailand for the sex.

Where exactly did that come from? I'm going to Thailand because it's a paradise. Because instead of cold, dirty streets they have warm sunny beaches. For someone my age, i've got quite a few responsibilities so believe it or not, i look forward to spending a week or two in a place where i can just stop caring and enjoy myself.

There are a million things i wanna do there, and visiting some of their world-renowned massage parlours is definitely one of them. Is that the reason i'm going there? No. They've got massage parlours in Toronto, and i've never even been. But it's just one of the things i'm planning to do to make my stay there as enjoyable as possible.

And i mean really, some of you people need to seriously lighten up. How did a thread about a vacation in paradise turn into a discussion about slavery and the like? Listen, if you really want to, you can find something negative to say about every single thing in the world.

How many natives died so that the land your house was built on could be colonized and sold to the housing developer centuries later? How many hours did it take enslaved children in India to make that carpet on the floor? What was it like for the Hong Kong sweatshop workers to get you those Nike's? What species had to go extinct so that you could wear that fur coat?

See what i'm trying to say? There's a negative side to everything and if that's all you're focused at, that's what your life is gonna be like. Negative and full of resentment. So try to do what i do, focus on the positive instead. Have fun in life, don't hurt anyone in the process and it'll be a good life. End of discussion.

I agree with you, most people are just ignorant, and want everything like a commercialised holiday.

There are no bounds of a holiday, specially when its cheap, heck i would travel with you, but right now i am short on funds.

Cancun is very expensive compared to Thailand. The only thing more expensive is getting there but once you're there, you can live like a king (well according to my friend who is over there now)

Yeah, i hear it only costs about $30 a MONTH to hire a live-in maid! Imagine, no more having to cook, clean the house, etc for the price of a couple of drinks at a club! Man, i wonder what it costs to rent a wicked condo there? I"m betting $100/mo tops! This is the ultimate escapeism. If you can get a source of passive income here in the West to bring you even as little as $1000/month without you having to be there, you can truly live it up in Thailand or Philippines. In comparison, here you'd be struggling to make rent payments with that kinda money.
