Pete Tong and Tiesto (pg. 4)

Tiesto would be better suited to Sublime on fridays, even moreso than Armin was, but not Pete Tong.

The two of them together would be better suited to saturday, even if Tiesto really isn't, but he's got enough of a following that the dance floor will pack out no matter where he plays.
Antistatic
hehe yeah Tong is whack
webmeister
I'm sure Pete Tong will be bearable .. he mainly plays house from what I've heard so I guess it could be worse!
muli
tong plays house, prog & prog trance.

he is know to play like gabriel & dresden tracks etc. and a fair bit of prog, i guess he will start housey and finish prog trancey.

Eddie i have to disagree with you in a big way!!! I thought Armin was comparatively very poor compared to Tiesto at Holy Grail on Boxing Day and although Armins mixing was a lot better then Tiesto at Mobile Home, i still enjoyed Mobile Home better....

....Cant wait for this night!! :)

Tiesto was great at Holy Grail but he really disappointed me at Mobile Home as he hardly played any upfliting trance at all and his mixing was just not up to scratch whilst Armin played just what I wanted to hear and his mixing sounded great on the night too.

I have to admit though that I have not had a "close" listen to Armin's recording but shall do so :)

Tiesto's style has changed....he very very very rarely plays any uplifting trance these days.....that suits me just fine, cos I love how he plays now....and I'm pretty sure that the majority of Tiesto fans know he is much more prog and tech oriented now, and will be expecting that.......if ppl go along expecting uplifting trance and are disappointed when they don't hear it, then imho that's their own fault for not bothering to listen to his recent sets to get the lowdown on how he's likely to play!!!

As for Pete Tong....he's a harder one to predict - his style is pretty varied....but there definitely won't be any trance from him...he's almost purely house, house, and more house...sorta a progressive funky style....I don't know quite what to expect from him out here tho - some of his sets make me cringe, and others I really like........but for an idea of how he's playing atm, check out his recent Essential Mix from Ultra Miami with Sander K - first hour is Pete, second hour is Sander.....I quite liked it - it's very groovy and danceable, and I'd be happy to hear a set like that from him out here..........there's not an ounce of trance in sight in that set tho - so, basically, if u want trance....don't come :p :p

ETA - I'm actually quite looking forward to meeting the guy behind the Essential Mixes...hehehe....hey, at least he has a decent voice *lol* The funniest thing ever is the very first EM - Pete Tong did it himself...it's from ummm...dammit I forget what year and it's not on my work puter.....but let's just say it's sooooo hideously bad.....full of early 90s house stuff like C&C Music Factory, and the mixing is totally cringeworthy...but it's kewl seein how far everythin has come since then *lol*

 no way, tiesto NYE was amazing! he played a good mix of prog, tech & uplifting. His mixing was far better than Armin's at home, no need for a close listen to armin, friends who have no idea about mixing thought it was bad lol.

Mobile home is still the best party in Sydney for me, the produciton was perfect, and it was such a proffesionally run event.

Be grateful he's coming at all....I was thinking of flying up for this, using up some air miles, but the only rtn flight was at 8.05 am......which would have cut things a little fine.....main reason I didnt was there was no confirmation of how long he'd play for....3+ hours would have been worth it....

Having listened to Tong's Essential Mix cd, with the red cover, late last year, I'd say he can spin anyhting from Balearic house to dark'n tribal sounding prog....

As for Daniel Davoli, he used to be in Black Box, and has recorded with Tall Paul as part of TallTinBox.....seen him back at home a few times, but this was a few years back, from what I can remember it was pumping house....

Couldnt agree more with you that Mobile Home is the best party in Sydney. But mate Tiesto's mixing at Mobile Home was atrocious!!! One MAJOR trainwreck when he bumped the tone arm and there were TOO many instances were the mix was so far out it was cring-worthy!! His mixing was way below par which suprised the hell out of me cause in Canberra he was close to flawless!

As for Armin, i wasnt paying a great deal of attention but i dont remember anywhere near as bad mixing, and at least there was no major trainwrecks during his set (that i heard anyway!).

Judging from previous Found@Thirst tracklists from Tiesto, it seems that he will play his "style" regardless of which ever DJ is playing before and after him.
It appears that he is playing ALOT of he's own productions/remixes in these sets too.

--------------------------------------

Seems to be playing alot of old tired tunes but @ the same time, playing some really fresh unknowns.

webmeister
lol .. nice tracklist on that first Argentina set :p

I don't remember his mixing at Mobile Home being particularly bad, though I do remember the train wreck that Leigh mentioned!

Mind you, Armin has a few trainwrecks in his Sublime set as well .. I guess the recording doesn't do him any favours, whereas Tiesto's MH mixing is basically a distant memory...
muli
that trainwreck by tiesto was the needle skipping, i remember him going WTF and looking at the technician dude, he just took the tune off and slamed in the next tune.

Other than that is mixing was OK, not perfect, but good enough
