[review] Carl Cox @ Avalon 3.13.04

oh my goodness... avalon... what can i say but that they're a bunch of twats. avalon seemed to be more packed than it was during new year's eve. there was noooo room to move whatsoever in the club. a lot of the people were also thoughtless jerks, bumping into people without any regard for others' personal space... avalon also practices FALSE ADVERTISING. :whip: :whip: advanced before 2 am was supposed to be 25 dollars on the avalon guestlist and on various others. instead, they were charging 30 dollars at the register. as the girl explained it, it's "30 reduced, 35 regular". trance@cu explained it... their manager apparently said to the cashiers relatively early on in the night, "in 5 minutes, reduced will now be 30, and regular 35." that really pissed me off for the rest of the night. so avalon proved to me once and for all that they're a bunch of shady asshats. and their sound system once again totally obliterated my ears.
ok, the music. carl cox just kept throwing down relentless beats the entire night. he played from around 1 til 5. i hadn't seen that many people responding to the music ever but the crowd really really got into it. i had a really good time and had a decent amount of energy especially after going to crobar the previous night. i think i was more awake after carl cox was finished. fun fun night. |

carl cox OWNED!!! rocked the house non stop. . . .threw down a remix of the perculator and another 80's remix and went ape.
As much the music rocked, avalon is piss poor and i doubt id pay money to go there again. . . .
1. WAYYYY TOO CROWDED
2. Whoever set up the DJ booth is a moron. You can only see the dj from the back of the dance floor or if you are upstairs. Couldve had the dj booth on the stage. DUH.
3. Bars were very understaffed.
4. The crowd although was dancing like crazy, did more shoving and pushing than anything. really really horrible crowd i thought.
5. Still never found the bathroom.
6. Sound system hurt my ears like whoa.
7. Carl came outside after the show and NO ONE recognized him except me. Maybe i was just star strucked.
8. Parkin is a bizath unless u do the parking garage thing.
9. General over crowdedness got on everyone's nerve and that may have contributed to everyone being pushy so i dunno. Last time ill be there. . . .unless carl comes around again.
overall, it seemed like one big nassstay ass frat party to me. |

They probably did not make enough money the night before and were trying to make up for it. |

| Yea I must agree Coxy rocked it but it was hard to dance without being slammed. Way too crowded though, took me like an hour to get back from the bathroom. |

Still very tired from S&D the night before I rallied for Carl Cox @ Avalon. This back 2 back stuff is TOTALLY killing me! This is the second time, the first being PVD & Ferry.
So got to Avalon around 11:45 and it was seriously more crowded then on NYE >:o. There were soo many house heads to see Carl, quite impressive. The opening DJ was laying down a lot of instrumentals that were really nice. The one I remember is BT – Sinbanbulist (Sander Kleinenberg Convertible Mix). The dance floor was getting mobbed so we went upstairs to chill on the balcony.
At 1:30 or so Carl took to the decks. Right from the beginning he tore it up! I don’t know any of the tracks he played, with the exception of the White Stripes Seven Nation Army (we went NUTS). I’m sorry Carl Cox totally OWNED the past 3 weeks. He was lowest “ranked” DJ that I saw, but that just goes to show how bs the ranking system is. Everyone who says you can’t compare across genres, well I can LOL. There were WAY too many people there, it was ridiculously hot, and I still had an AMAZING time. The only downside to his set was that it was so short, only about 3 hours L.
So for the past 3 weeks of parties it goes something like this:
Carl Cox > (not by much ;-)) Ferry Corsten > Sasha & Digweed > Paul Van Dyk

Totally unaware of that happening.....??? But there were definitely no ambulances or disturbances of any sort. Check your sources Bri. I was there until 6, and I didn't see anything.

I cant understand it at all. Their system on NYE when Sasha was there was awesome. Now it totally sucks ass. WTF is going on here Avalon. Sort it out!!!!:eek: |
