Armin van Buuren can mix well, can produce even better, can put together a great set and is a great DJ personality...PvD is just Eh to me. PvD is more of a producer than a DJ, whens the last time he released a ing mix comp?
I dunno, I definetly think Armin should be ahead of PvD.
But the DJ Top 100 is a bunch of CRAP anyway...man a lot of those DJ's should be much higher and a lot of them should be a lot lower. Why the is Oakenfold still in the top 10? He needs to be in the top 20 at least! |

I liked and still like Armin's 2000-2001 productions. Along with Tiesto's work, I would they define trance of that period. But since then he has just churned out consistent uplifting filler. It's sort of sad.
As for the DJ part, I completely agree. While I admire some of Armin's productions, I've always felt him to be a lackluster DJ, certainly not deserving of his "ranking."

I don't agree! PVD should have been first last year. Tiesto was a close second and Armin third.

first, walhalla & tenshi don't have anything to do with armin except that he remixed walhalla...
second, you didn't even name some of his best track (i.e. Blue Fear) which doesn't matter because on a production stand point, pvd beats armin anyday of the week and twice on sunday, examples...

alot of people dont think about what they're about to say
if you've gone to a live set by tiesto and you're not already bias, you'll understand that tiesto actually kinda sucks, and as a dj i can think of about a handful of other djs that would wipe the floor with him
as a producer hes actually not bad, some of the songs he makes are alright, but the key here is when hes spinning hes usually playing songs that he produced therefore promoting himself
so when you like him, you dont like him for djing you like his songs, therefore you like him as a producer
and in all fairness if you've been to a live set with armin, hes actually a good dj, but again he usually spins stuff that he produces, the difference here is the songs he makes are really, really good

Remixes...
Armins remixes far surpass those of PvD's. And by the way where did I say that PvD isn't a good producer? I never compared Armin or PvD's production talents. But I am more partial to Armin's productions that PvD's.

armins set energy level is like this

all the way through, never has any peaks or lows. I agree with the poster who mentioned his sets dont have any bite or edge. His sets have no unpredictably most of the time. I think his beatmatching is pretty good to be honest. So hes an average DJ with a good producing mind. Hes put a lot of effort into EDM in the last 10 years so deserves his #3 ne way
