The portrayl of Salieri as the bad guy was entertaining, but is totally untrue.
Has anyone seen The Simpsons take on Amadeus? The part where Otto screams out the Kochel catalouge number from one of Mozart's [Bart] piano sonata's was some funny e. :stongue: |

A serious question deserves a serious answer.
the greatest musical genius of all time in my
opinion has to be Beethoven.not because he composed
his greatest music while he was deaf, but because
his late works especially (for me) the late piano sonatas
and diabelli variations are what can truly be described as
sublime.
the adagio from the "hammerklavier" sonata is a fifteen
minute outpouring of true beauty..i urge anyone to give it an
unbiased listen.this amongst others gives an emotional depth
that has never been matched before or since. |

For the guy who made the list, it's Aaron copland afaik.
And my pic would be beethoven, when someone can start a genre almost single handedly while deaf, that's skill. Great music too. Bach was more influental though.
Didn't know all the TAs knew so much about classical. |

On Brian Eno, I think he's an incredible writer/producer/musician, but I haven't heard enough to really support that. Only Music For Airports, which is quite amazing. So he gets a vote from me.
I had intended to say Kraftwerk all along, but I didn't because you said musicians and not bands, I believe. Kraftwerk might not have invented electronic, persay, but they did more for it than any other single group or artist ever has. They spawned so many genres and made music that has survived the test of time so well.
Ulrich Schnauss is another I considered listing, but I think he needs to release more material to truly classify as a genius, even though his two albums are quite incredible.
An idea that I always think of when someone mentions the abilities of Bach, Beethoven, or Mozart; is what if they were born into a later time, for instance now. No longer limited by only being able to use instruments and orchestras, what would they have come up with if they had synthesizers, sequencers, and samplers? |
