James and I have owned our decks for about 1 and a half years. In this time we have only had our decks set up properly for about 1 year.
We can both beat match fine so it's just a matter of practising and getting the timing anf track selection down pat. |

Ive been playing for a little over three years, and as already stated here, not everyone can mix, its easy to know how, but much harder to put into practice to a level that is acceptable for the paying public. Not everyone has the ear for it. I was very lucky that i picked it up quickly, and was even more lucky to play in our biggest club (Heaven) for my first gig out after only 3 months.
But always improving and learning new tricks.:) |

2 and half years ive had my decks.
A total of 3 months solid practice over that time i would imagine.
I never have time. |

about, 1 year 4 months.
level? i would say kung fu master, though i am striving to reach the ranks of pirate, ninja and then finally samurai.
i can beat match, but like everyone there are times when i it up, not as often and as bad as 1 year ago though. Ive skipped over harmonic mixing, because i think writing down keys on records is akin to bpm to counters, id like to think most of my mixes are in key, but they probably arnt. i tend to focus on playing what i think will work well rather than what the laws of music tell me will work (im raging against the machine). Maybe giving in and writing down keys and djing by numbers is what i need to do to reach the level of pirate? But yeah, im not keen on that (because of the principle, not the work involved in doing it).
Im sure some of you have heard my mixes, so you can comment on how good or awful you think I am! |

| I think i'm up to 3 or 4 years now... can't remember exactly.... been buying records all my life though... my family didn't get a cd player until i was 13 so vinyl was a popular option! ;-) I still think i'm pretty but the last few months in Australia and the last month in german have really helped a lot. I don't have TV, my girlfriend is in Australia and I've got an amazing mixer so i've been playing 2-6 hours per day every day... It's really been helping with a lot of problems i had with djing and had been ignoring. I think it's easier to play/learn (especially) on good equipment but i good dj can play well on almost anything. I've seen one of my friends (Nikita a melb prog dj) play some amazing sets on my P.O.S Gemini PS-626 mixer... and grand master flash can play/scratch ok on the Technic SL303 and i used to own those decks, they are REALLY crap... |

Been mixing for 2 years in August. I started with pretty good equipment (technics 1200 MK2s and Roland dj-2000 4 channel mixer)so i had motivation to get better. I can definatly see that my mixes have been getting alot smoother than they used to be level wise and im getting the beats alot faster now aswell. Maybe the more deaf i become the better i can hear the beats.
Hopefully have a set of mine on Dj Wardens sounds of downunder in a couple of weeks so stay tuned. |

i'm ok, there's always room for improvement. |
you mix pretty well for 15 months... :)
I would just alter your track selection... but that will happen with time, and you establish your own style. Keep playing, you have talent. |
