best 'commercial' rapper in the game right now is Nas. brilliant.
check out jedi mind tricks - violent by design. one of the best produced hip hop albums of all time.
of course, you MUST check out Gangstarr. dj premier is arguably the best producer in hip hop ever. get full clip, their 'best of' comp
hieroglyphics. del the funky homosapien (his future development album which was never released is one of the greatest underground albums ive ever heard. deltron 3030. souls of michief.
also, someone mentioned immortal technique. he is amazing, though at times a little too racist for me.
another of the all time greats who isnt mentioned up there with 2pac, biggie, nas and jay-z is Common.
the infamous and hell on earth albums by mobb deep are also classics.
the last emperor is another greta underground talent. get his track called 'one life' to be blown away. one of my favorite tracks. the second guy who raps, Poetic, died a few months after recording that song of colon cancer. which makes the song all the more haunting...

Alot of the artists and tracks metioned above are a good start to getting into hip hop.
There's too much to list when it comes to getting into hip hop, so I'm gonna leave that up to you to find out(which is the best way anyways), but one artist tht I definetley want you to check out is J-Live. Arguably one of the best MCs...EVER.
And of course the usuals...Run DMC, Rakim and Eric B, The Roots, Wu Tang, Mos, Talib, Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples etc... |

| Underground stuff, eh? Well then you should check out the earlier stuff by Das-Efx and Wu-Tang Clan. Other good hip-hop would be Group Home, Artifacts, Lost Boyz and Sunz of Man. |
