Even we have become morbid and this is just a forum, celebrating the deaths of others of late in this forum a whole lot. What next virtual body parts on display in the forum. What is wrong with humanity??????

People celebrated when Saddam's army was defeated and his soldiers killed. And I, as a Palestinian, will celebrate when the Israeli army is defeated and will cheer when their soldiers are killed by the resistance.

Well why stop there? gather up some arab countries and go to war with Israel? surely Israel is small and weak.

I don't understand what the argument is in this thread. Put simply, the man's unit came under fire from enemy forces. Their escape route was blocked so the guy ordered a combat manuouver to position himself and some of his troops in such a way to attack enemy forces firing on his unit. In order to break the enemy kill zone, he personally lead a charge putting his life at risk.

I don't know about others, but I understand that in a war zone it's kill or be killed - I'm not saying that he should have just sat there and done nothing. I'm simply concerned by the idea of glorifying death, to me it looks a hell of a lot like the whole martyrdom craze in fundamentalist Islam - "WOW, they killed heaps of people, they ROCK!"

I just don't understand how the death of twenty people could be described as 'badass' - but hey, maybe that's just me. I won't argue with the rest of your post, because I never said anything like that, so I assume that you're addressing Cyrus. What I'm on about is the apparent glorification and praise of killing, nothing more, nothing less. I actually agree with what you've said, and as such haven't condemned the soldier in question for his actions.

the reason i appluad him as opposed to the iraqi's who tried to kill his soldiers is because of what each side is fighting for. I side with what the US represents in freedom and liberty, as opposed to Sadr's militia of religious fanatics.

Tell that to the US soldiers, some of them obviously dont know that, or does it mean that the US has the freedom to pile people up and take nekkid pictures of them and lots of other sick stuff.

BTW i still think this guy was playing too much CS. Im no military expert but i would think that in Combat Tactics 101 they would tell you that charging in alone against a superior enemy force is not a good idea.

true, charging in alone against a superior force is not the best idea... that's why he's getting the medal. a soldier's job is not to contemplate the politics of his duty, it's to preform his duty as handed down from the politicians.

trying to tie in the prisoner crisis with this marine's heroism is an insult to his courage and bravery, regardless of your percieved politics of the situation.

and next ime you want to discuss the prisoner crisis, i suggest one of the multiple threads that something to do with it.:toothless

I very much doubt that. Isreal seriously kicked arab ass back during the six day war. Learn your history:
